The PDA is a vital tool in our business – and becoming increasingly important. That’s why we’ve reacted swiftly to colleagues’ feedback by making some key changes, writes Paul Smith.
Field operations director Ricky McAulay – who has been working hard to introduce the changes alongside colleagues in technology – has been speaking about why the business has acted and what the changes are.
In summary, we’re replacing 35,000 batteries across the operation, building on the 25,000 we distributed before Christmas. And a new five-minute reporting process for faults has been implemented for managers calling the IT helpdesk. If a fault is logged by 4pm, a replacement will be delivered the next working day.
‘We’ve been listening to a lot of the feedback,’ says Ricky. ‘The PDA device is a critical device – the notifications, inflight instructions – it’s such an important part of the job. And the feedback is, they aren’t working.
‘We’re very keen to make sure our people are equipped every day with the right technology for our customers, leading up to the new PDAs later this year.’
Ahead of the rollout of those new devices, we must continue to get the best performance from the current devices. Here are some top tips:
- Re-boot all PDA devices every day
Lock the screen when the PDA is not in use
Wherever possible, keep the screen dry and remove any water from the screen before use
Never attempt to replace the battery in wet conditions.
