Parcels have declined since we got a yes vote to new deal

Post by dolphlundgren73 »

I know January and feb are always a lull in terms of Parcels and letters but do we think we will get back to the levels of parcels we were receiving from march to Dec 2020?
I know we are missing many packages bound from Asia, due to them being held on covid restrictions, but the parcels are near to normal levels again and not at "xmas level " everyday. Dont come on here saying you cant complete your duty still....etc. The point is the parcels and letters have notably dropped in last month. Its a great thing that we got that CWU deal voted in coz nothing else would ever be ob table if the levels continue to drop as they have since negotiations.
I personally could never do all parcels and 1 duty a month ago but now im finishing b4 time if i did it at normal speed. In fact id say parcels have dropped off more than they were b4 the pandemic🤔
Ive been in job 31 years in 7 different locations across Liverpool n lancs and worked with Work load assessments and predictions with managers ,as well as framework and full revisions , so i do know my stuff when it comes to how much mail each office gets and how long a duty should take..

There too many variables to say the packets have dropped for good
Jan was a 5 week month so people’s pay is stretched
Still in lockdown people possibly nervous now about there job
Packets from overseas the whole custom issue

But it was busy for packets today

Your not getting anywhere near the parcel levels you were getting from march to December though, despite how busy some think they are. We always had some hard duties or ones that always pretend to look busy in order to avoid doing any extra work ( or the same work as everybody else) ; :d'oh!

It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to do 1hr and 40mins IPS in the mornings :coolr

If you feel there's a lull then by all means come and meet me at my van when you're done, there'll be plenty for you to help with.

We're still pretty constant with parcels at present. I always take the view that there's nearly a 1000 Delivery offices and no two are alike. :hmmmm

Some observations: Our "Heavy" Mondays seemed to have moved to "Heavy" Tuesdays  We tend to get either loads of Smaller parcels or not quite as many Larger parcels. Everyone seems to be using Tracked nowadays though, they've really increased in number.

Amazon continues to confuse me. There seems to be no logic in what they give us to deliver. We've got dedicated Amazon Vans in our area but we still get "their" parcels. It was said that we used to get their Prime parcels because they couldn't rely on their own drivers getting there on time. :cuppa

It's statements like this which makes the whole issues of planning walks and workloads why so many revisions fail, you don't know everything about duties nobody coming from another office could possibly do. Sheer arrogance doesn't come across well either.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!

In my office there are 5 different post code areas, 2 of the areas are still getting hammered with Amazon parcels, the difference in workloads is crazy, roll on the revisions!

I don't think it's going to be too much longer before we're processing more Tracked than non-Tracked parcels

I've come on here to say I couldn't complete my duty today. One FULL York of bulky packets and another 3/4 York with the rest. Dropped a loop, worked to my time, went home with my feet f***ing killing me

The shops are shut.. people are buying shite they don't need because they're bored at home.. Nothing has changed..

That sounds like a normal day before covid march 2020 though.
From march 2020 we had 4 to 5 yorks of parcela per shared duty . Now its like you say 1 to 2 yorks. 3 on a very busy day and the mail is really low. D2ds are practically extinct in a lot of areas.

There has never been a 10 hour delivery anywhere.
If your taking 3 hours from 7 to get out then thats really slow prep and load. And then you would have 7 hours . No chance mate. Your talking to a postie of 31 years and a revision specialist ,wrap champion and route planner expert. No 6 hour walks in the country unless your doing both🤔
I wont tell your boss the truth tho. 🤣
