MRM.COM : Prioritising PDAs : The impact of feedback : How your views are changing the way we operate

Your View, your ideas. Thanks to the suggestions and feedback sent in by colleagues, the company is making changes.

One live example is how we’re making PDA adjustments to make the job easier and more efficient. We head to Warrington to meet some of the colleagues sharing their views – and see how the company has already responded.

CEO Simon Thompson fulfils his promise and heads to Norwich to visit RMtv presenter and postie Chad Blythe at the delivery office, before also heading to the mail centre and Parcelforce. Tune in for Simon’s latest business update.

Plus, there is an update following the CWU agreement ballot and some fantastic new footage of our Midlands parcel hub.

This gave me a good laugh this morning. The head of the company saying he had to isolate due to the COVID app and instructing us to do the same. Meanwhile in our office the managers have been actively telling us to delete the app on our phones as too many people are off sick. Obviously the message isn’t filtering from the top onto the shop floor. Same old crap.

I agree the PDAs are definately crap in Wet Weather, and seem to crash more. No surprise really Electronics + Water.

We've been taking spare batteries out for some time, but after a load of the intial issue batteries were exchanged the "Failing Battery Level" seems to have sorted itself. :thumbup I know they probably saved a fortune in not having vehicle charging points installed but how about fitting a Normal USB charging socket that everyone has a lead for (so they use their mobile while driving about! JOKE  ) and we could charge them using the 12v socket? :hmmmm

I'd also like a Physical locking button (I've got one on my DAB Radio so it's feasible) so the PDA doesn't go off through half a dozen menus between scans! :arrrghhh I know there's an Electronic Locking Button but that's always goes Tits Up in any Wet Weather .... just when you don't want to be messing about with a Wet Touch Screen FFS! :arrrghhh

On the Up side nice to see the New CEO getting out & about, and actually meeting his Team. Unlike the last one who just hid in his Hollowed Out Volcano, refusing to talk to anyone. Good Riddance Asshole. :cuppa

Very few of our PDAs still have the basic hand strap on them, that leaves a large gap at the bottom of the battery near the terminals. That makes it even easier for water to get in to it.

The button on the top right of the screen surround can be used to switch the screen off, but it seems to be about 50/50 as to whether it will do anything when you press it! And 50/50 again for the screen coming back on when you press it again.

I think the reason behind no charging point in vehicle is probably a cost one but I think myself it's to make sure you carry on your person every second of delivery. I have been pulled up for being stationary for 12mins....fact was I had left PDA in cradle and forgot to put in my pocket.

Hasn't anyone put in an order for replacement hand straps?

No. Managers aren't interested. And if you get one, so done will steal it within a week.

Have they actually gone missing or have been thrown away as a result of breaking?

From the state of them I'd say thrown away after breaking. Can't get pouches or trolleys so PDA straps are a long way down on the list.

Perhaps no charging cradles have been fitted in the vans is because they thought Peugeot vans wouldn't last 5 years!

Surely you scan on delivery, otherwise how do you know who is going to be in, if you leave something with a neighbour or you leave a p739,?? Also if there is a query and the manager goes to the GPS it will show the item is delivered where you scanned it, in the office. :arrrghhh
