Agency Workers
Agency workers currently covering delivery duties working from 9 till 4 in my office. Only having to tie up, drive to first delivery point and be replenished by van driver. Wage adverised is £11.14 p/h plus Manpower's cut of maybe 50% so RM paying 35 hours at approx £17 p/h. This to do the same work, if not less prep, in more time, than someone who has been in the job for over 15 years but can't get a contract beyond 30 hours. Obviously things are stretched and strained at the moment and I'm aware that the agency work is only temporary. but it highlights short-sightedness of the company and inability of union to press for long term part timers to be made up. The union has long neglected part timers and I fear this will have an increasing impact as things progress.

We used 1 agency worker last Xmas for approx 2 weeks and none since then, all the required cover since then has been put out as overtime.

Re: Agency Workers
We had about 8 agency workers in our office up to Christmas. Half of them disappeared straight after Christmas but the rest are still here. Their hours are 2-5pm.

Re: Agency Workers
What do you expect, they have had no training, I find parcels left all over the shop on my round when the agency staff have done an early run.

Re: Agency Workers
Well they don’t want to take anyone on permanently at the moment until all the revision done I’m guessing they’ll have to wait to see what the staffing levels are needed after that, so it’s good that there’s only agency workers at the moment so they can be hired and fired as and when which will protect our permanent members of staff jobshermesetas wrote: ↑29 Jan 2021, 15:44Agency workers currently covering delivery duties working from 9 till 4 in my office. If I was offered £17 an hour I might consider doing some overtime.hermesetas wrote: ↑29 Jan 2021, 15:44Agency workers currently covering delivery duties working from 9 till 4 in my office. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
