Will van sharing be phased out?
There is no point sharing a van to deliver packets.
And if packets keep increasing and mail volumes keep decreasing then surely there will be less van sharing in the future?
Personally I prefer having a van to myself. I can organise the mail and packets myself and no waiting for others. Its going to be a shock going back to van sharing.

Re: Will van sharing be phased out?
There are a few conflicting problems with phasing out van sharing. .
Increasing the number of vans increases costs and the carbon footprint of the business so it's unlikely to be a van for everyone system but there's no doubt van sharing has proven to be very inefficient.
I think it will depend on how successful they are at removing large parcels from the core delivery network. Without large parcels would it be possible to move back to some kind of pouch box system? Some kind of feeding system?
There are issues no matter which direction you take.

The template for what can go through a PSM is apparently quite large so I'm guessing that RM will deem anything that fits within that template to be smallWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑27 Jan 2021, 19:35There are a few conflicting problems with phasing out van sharing. .

RM will deem what's large and small on whatever is economically most viable.

In our office we used to have 2 HCT duties only. Now we have 10. Whereas the limit of walking out with an HCT was within a radius of a mile from the office, management have now increased it to one and a half miles which means a van few duties fall in to this range now.

They should do what they do in Jersey which is electric bikes with bigger storage, they also have van drivers doing parcels and small walking duties

There's bound to be some DOs where every walk is outside of the walking out limit for HCTsDiamondSmiles wrote: ↑28 Jan 2021, 10:11In our office we used to have 2 HCT duties only. Now we have 10. Re: Will van sharing be phased out?
A few in some areas yes and being where it is geographically it has a very high amount of parcels and it works well with a mixture of vans and bikes which could be done in uk as well and reduce our carbon footprint, I have family in Jersey and one of which works for Jersey post and there walks seems to be bad like ours!2yearpostie wrote: ↑28 Jan 2021, 10:52Are there any hills in jersey?Coffee lover wrote: ↑28 Jan 2021, 10:35They should do what they do in Jersey which is electric bikes with bigger storage, they also have van drivers doing parcels and small walking duties

Re: Will van sharing be phased out?
I am currently using my electric bike to arrive at my first delivery point.I meet with my driver on the way round leaving my bike at a secure location near my start point.Without it would be a half hour walk or two busses.Twice a week...Monday ,Tues the duty is lapsed and i am treated as a reserve....so it becomes a lottery.
Happy days

I'm not knocking you and personally I think it's a stupid rule but technically you're not allowed to do that.I am currently using my electric bike to arrive at my first delivery point.
