Liverpool Echo (Jan. 14, 2021) ~ Beauty Salon Owner 'In Tears' Over Parcel With Upsetting 'You Have Covid' Note
Two delivery notes with the same message left the mum-of-two shocked and upset
The delivery note received by beauty salon owner Claire Whittle
A mum-of-two said she was "disgusted" after receiving a Royal Mail delivery notice and parcel with the words "you have Covid 19" scrawled on them.
Liverpool beauty salon owner Claire Whittle was isolating at home after she and the rest of her family tested positive for coronavirus at the end of last year.
Claire Whittle, 45, had Covid but has now recovered
However she did not require hospital treatment and is now clear of the virus.
The first delivery note was left at her home in Willaston, south Wirral, last Thursday, saying an item could not be delivered because there was "no access."
But in addition it said: "You have Covid 19."
The parcel was eventually left inside the communal entrance of the apartment complex on Saturday, again with the same message on it.
The message was scrawled again on this parcel
Claire, 45, who runs the CJ in the City salon in the Ropewalks area of the city centre, said she was left "shocked and upset" by the message.
She said: "I was in tears on the doorstep when I saw what was written on the delivery note.
"I am battling depression and isolating. I have phoned Royal Mail about it but nobody has got back to me. I had Covid over Christmas but I'm fine now. All my neighbours will have seen that and will know I've got Covid 19, which should be private."
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "Royal Mail takes the health and safety of its colleagues, its customers and the local communities in which we operate very seriously.
"We have put in place a range of preventive measures to protect both our customers and our colleagues. The correct procedures were not followed on this occasion and we apologise for any upset or distress that this note may have caused. "We have reminded our colleagues of the correct procedures. We were the first UK company to put in place social-distancing measures in relation to parcel delivery. We pioneered contact-free delivery. We are temporarily not handing over our hand-held devices to customers to capture signatures."

Royal mail really shouldn't be getting poor publicity like this, it's damaging for the business and this jerk should be sacked, no question. Odds are 10% plus of your delivery in certain areas are covid positive. Just get on with it and use correct procedures.

I suspect it was more a cackhanded attempt to explain why the postie was unwilling to knock on the door rather than anything malicious.

So how does the the guy who scrawled this on the card deliver the tracked COVID tests we are delivering, when there’s a 50/50 chance the recipient the other side of the door is positive. Not all letter boxes will be big enough for these kits.

Never mind the "idiot" postman.
How much FREE publicity did this woman get for her salon.
There are always 2 sides to every story.
