Lapsing

Hi, Our Manager casually told us we were Lapsing today.
During a Pandemic asking us to do more seems ridiculous!

Surely you can understand why managers turn to lapsing as often as possible, particularly with sickness levels as they are. If theres a way to get more post delivered using the resources available then surely it makes obvious sense to try and do that.

But you do not have to take any lapsing if you believe it will take you over your finish time and you dont want that to happen.

We've been lapsing since 4th, told to take lapsing first then cull your own walk to complete on time. Prioritize the Sp/D and Tracks, and roll the letters over if needed. Rep says to work as directed and leave it up to the manager

No no no. Lapsing is additional to your duty. If you can't complete your duty you don't take it. If you think that you may be able to complete your duty, complete your duty return to the office and if you have time left to take the lapsed bit do so, if not don't.

Exactly, it's really not complicated. If people are complaining coz they can't finish early..then tough.

God the variation between offices is mental we've lapsed everyday for at least 3 years maybe longer usually 2 dutys and it went to one at christmas that's in an office of 30

Offices have different local agreements for dealing with overrunning deliveries.

The actual and long standing business position is that you should agree a solution before you leave the office.

As a rep I would never advise members to just bring back mail without first agreeing that position with management. Basically if you don't think you'll have time to do it and you're not prepared to work overtime you shouldn't be taking it with you in the first place.

If they will not listen & can’t be arsed arguing with them

we got lapsed at christmas , all year round! on 5 and half hour dutys, not sure what the issue is with lapsing is here if no time argue ur case.

Not wanting to sound like the Four Yorkshiremen, in our office of 60 duties, 9 of them are lapsed (management made a concession for December and reduced it to 8). And this is in an area where quite a few jobs have had new builds added in recent years. Lapsing happens 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

You are putting a lot of trust in management.
Not saying you're wrong but I don't think I could.
I've had to deal with situations before where managers have completely denied telling members to bring back mail and tried to invoke wilful delay.

dont understand how any lapsing can be done when van sharing is suspended hard enough to get the duties covered as it is just drag your feet shouldnt be taking any extra risks at the minute

The reason that your DOM wants you to take the lapse out with you (even though She/he knows you are going to bring it back) is that the duty can be deemed to have been cleared for that day in official reports. It's a lie, a fraud a fiddle.
Just do your duty first, return to the office and then go do the lapsing ..if you can within your time.
