New shift patterns?
With the odd possible sunday shift being worked in the future, and the drop to 37 hours a week,is every delivery office going to come up with there own shift pattern etc, guessing there will be lots of different options for managers and staff to work together and get something on the table the whole office would be happy with, for eg work a sunday week after get the sat and sun off, lots of permutations out there is everyone worked together?

Re: New shift patterns?
Sunday working will be voluntary, but no doubt, if Sunday delivery does take off, new shift and rota patterns that includes Sunday working will be introduced, particularly for new starters, as what happened to supermarket workers when the Sunday trading laws were relaxed

Re: New shift patterns?
Not a strength you tend to find at any level at RM
If it suits certain people to work Sundays then volunteer, nobody should be pressured to work Sundays either by management or by an office vote

Re: New shift patterns?
Surely no shift patterns can involve Sunday working until there's an agreement on Sunday pay?
Otherwise we're surely undermining the union's bargaining position....

Re: New shift patterns?
I wouldn’t work Sunday for anything less than double time, I resent working Saturdays for normal time, should be time & half.

Re: New shift patterns?
The two positions that Royal Mail appear to have about Sundays (according to Martin Walsh) are contradictory and not sustainable as a voluntary solution .rambo1 wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 17:16Or working till 4pm instead of 2pm.Grumpyoldmailman wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 15:43Like doing the afternoon shifts were voluntary?barcajr wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 13:26Sunday working will be voluntary, but no doubt, if Sunday delivery does take off, new shift and rota patterns that includes Sunday working will be introduced, particularly for new starters, as what happened to supermarket workers when the Sunday trading laws were relaxed![]()
On the one hand they want to grow and evolve into a 24/7 parcel business but on the other hand they believe that they can't find a credible product while Sunday attracts a premium.
Something will have to give which means the end of any idea that Sunday will be voluntary.
What the exact timescales will be is up for debate but I can't imagine you would sign up to this deal, include Sunday working and then be happy to allow things to just stagnate. They're supposed to be committed to change at pace afterall.

It would HAVE to be voluntary for a number of reasons and it will work.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 18:17The two positions that Royal Mail appear to have about Sundays (according to Martin Walsh) are contradictory and not sustainable as a voluntary solution .rambo1 wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 17:16Or working till 4pm instead of 2pm.Grumpyoldmailman wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 15:43Like doing the afternoon shifts were voluntary?barcajr wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 13:26Sunday working will be voluntary, but no doubt, if Sunday delivery does take off, new shift and rota patterns that includes Sunday working will be introduced, particularly for new starters, as what happened to supermarket workers when the Sunday trading laws were relaxed![]()

1. They could have a 4 day week. Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun. This would appeal to some people.
2. Offer it on overtime
3. All new employees might be told they work 5 days from 7 instead of the 5 days from 6 which it is now
4. If Sundays became compulsory (which they won’t) then this would exclude all non-drivers. Everybody would suddenly say they can no longer drive for the company

Re: New shift patterns?
People do work Sunday in RM at the moment it is £13 an hour which is less than the first 38 hours you do in delivery with your supplements payments. Not wishing that we should do these hours or terms it would be better to offer better rates for those who wish to do them!Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 14:28Surely no shift patterns can involve Sunday working until there's an agreement on Sunday pay?
