Struggling postman's message to Hull shoppers waiting for Royal Mail deliveries

A 'struggling' postman has issued a message to shoppers frustrated by Royal Mail deliveries.

The postal service is currently dealing with an 'exceptional volume' of parcels and has been inundated with messages from customers waiting for Christmas gifts to arrive.

Online shoppers say they have been experiencing long waits for parcels due to an increase in online shopping and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

One postman left a message on the Hull Live Facebook page asking for customers to show some empathy.

He wrote: "If only you all knew how much we are struggling. The volume of letters and parcels we have a daily basis, we had over a million parcels in just one day to deal with.

"The lack of staff due to various reasons including mental health and Covid. We have agency staff helping out but it's not enough for you all.

"We all try deliver everything we can with a smile on our face trying to keep the country going and keep you happy. All we get is grief. We're not supermen we are postmen and the postwomen do their best too.

"We put our lives and our families on the line daily since the first lockdown. Give us a break."

A statement on the Royal Mail website addresses concerns over customers not receiving deliveries in time for Christmas with parcels being delivered late on Saturdays and throughout Sunday to clear the backlog.

It says: "The usual collection services will be made on Saturday. Deliveries are expected to take place on Saturday and, in most areas, Sunday as we work hard to get all Christmas mail to you.

"Royal Mail is working hard to deliver the most comprehensive and high quality service we can to all our customers, large and small.

"The combination of greatly increased uptake of online Christmas shopping, in no small part driven by the recent lockdown, and the ongoing Covid restrictions mean that all delivery companies are experiencing exceptionally high volumes this year.

"Every single parcel, letter and card is important to us.

"Despite our best efforts and significant investment in extra resource, some customers may experience slightly longer delivery timescales than our usual service standards.

"This is due to the exceptionally high volumes we are seeing, exacerbated by the coronavirus-related measures we have put in place in local mail centres and delivery offices.

"In such cases, we always work hard to get back to providing our usual level of service as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

"Most of our Customer Service Points are open Saturday and Sunday for you to collect urgent items for which we’ve left a ‘Something for you’ card – please visit Services Near you for their opening times."

Pure unadulterated greed.

All that matters is they get their 's**t'; and they want it yesterday.

Just an endless pack of lies in the standard copy and paste reply that RM keep coming up with. Much like the government with lockdowns, RM management totally failed to see what was coming with the workload increase. A second lockdown was always going to happen and when it was called in November anyone doing the job knew exactly what was going to happen - and by then it was too late!!
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.
