Xmas Bank holiday weekend hours?

Post by sardonicus »

Does anyone know what happens xmas bank holiday weekend if its your long weekend, as regards bank holidays etc?

I ask this as my rep has told me that staff who are sheduled to work saturday 26 dec will be paid, though the business is closed, and also staff sheduled to work mon 28 dec will be paid - i think this is a bh.

I am not sheduled to work xmas weekend, its my long weekend, so i take it i will get paid or day off in leui for monday as its a bank holiday, but what about the sat 26? if people sheduled to work that day are gonna get paid anyway, what about people whos long weekend is that weekend, surely we are entitled to a paid day too, or it will be unfair?

On another note, can anyone confirm the total bank holiday entitlement for a 23.5 part timer, is it 6?

cheers fellas

You'll get time back lieu for mon 28th as it's a bank holiday. You will not for Saturday the 26th. And yes, it is grossly unfair as everyone else gets their day off that week PLUS the Saturday. Ask your rep to explain that one. Bet he just says you're not losing out. But of course we all know we are.

My day off is the Saturday. I will be stopping my union subs until it amounts to a days pay.

Work has never been fair for all since the beginning of time.
It's not play school.

The only possible resolution Royal Mail would accept to make it "fair for all" would be to pay those off on Saturday then cancel the Bank Holiday Monday.

Those on a long weekend would gain nothing and the majority of staff would lose a day off.

Would that be an acceptable solution?

Just pay us the hrs or time in lieu for Saturday. Simple. Fair. Ok it would cost over a million pounds.

So how would the CWU force them to do this?

CWU :We want you to pay a day in lieu for Saturday.

RM :I'll tell you what rather than do that we'll just make Saturday the bank holiday and your members can come to work on Monday or even funnier we'll just make them work the Saturday and have the Monday off now off you pop and tell your members the good news.
