Postman Mick, 80 today!

Post by rambo1 »

Really can't understand WHY you'd want to still be a postie at 80! If he has nothing else in his life fair play to be able to do it still but really WHY???
Will he get told off tomorrow morning after being on national BBC news showing him feeding dogs on his round with dog biscuits! BIG no no. Should know better at his age.
Happy birthday anyway. Wonder if he does his lapsing. Must be on more money than the Dom, state pension, RM pension, plus £23k wage!!!

I haven't seen the footage. If he is happy doing so that is all that matters. A lot of people in the world are not happy.

I would greet most of the dogs on my rural. ( one or two exceptions). They was always friendly and were happy to meet you, even the three pikey dogs who use to rush at me aggressively. If they don’t see you as a threat they leave you alone.

If he likes working and is able... who wants to sit at home really? Two of my grandparents essentially unretired multiple times and kept very social and active lives anyway. The full on retirement added nothing to their happiness, so why continue it if it's making you unhappy and you know you can continue. I'm expecting to be exactly the same, though retirement age will be like 90 anyway.

As I do on mine, but would never feed (reward) them. What happens when someone else does your round and has no biscuits for the dogs? All animals are unpredictable.

Must have a piece of p**s delivery. 20 years of denying a younger man a job and a chance to support his family.

When you put it like that, it is pretty selfish
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

There really should be a rule that you can work till state pension age then you have to retire.

In all seriousness I don’t think it’s right, he has his pension both state and rm and a full time wage! Whilst there are youngsters struggling to even feed there families who would love his job , I think it’s selfish really

Yes the whole thing is skewed towards encouraging older workers to just keep on forever without even considering the next generation and their generation!
Having retired myself a few weeks ago the only thing I regret is not going even sooner and not taking even more sick leave!

I agree that its selfish of him and wrong that he is able to do this. He's probably been on cushy rurals for decades and never had to cope with the harsh realities of deliveries that many younger posties face on a daily basis while at the same time denying someone else an opportunity.

Maybe if everyone could afford to live on the State pension, but it's not much and unless you have a company or private pension it might mean old age in poverty. And even those with an additional pension might not be getting much from that.
