Tracking and Special Delivery not available at Post Offices

Post by thedonkey »

Anybody know the reasoning behind this decision? Seems odd to exclude our prime services from being purchased from your local Post Office counter.

Staff at Royal Mail are working round the clock to deliver everyone's cards and presents in time for Christmas

Christmas will be very different this year, meaning it's even more important to spread festive cheer and give back to those providing valuable services.

Staff at Royal Mail are working incredibly hard to deliver everyone's cards and presents across the country in time for Christmas, and this doesn't go unnoticed.

Some of you may want to give a tip to thank your local postman or postwoman, but it's difficult to know the appropriate protocol, given the current coronavirus restrictions.

SurreyLive contacted Royal Mail earlier this week, and it confirmed that tipping is allowed, however it's a "matter between customers and individual post people".

A spokesperson said: "Royal Mail does a hugely important job at Christmas when our people work really hard to deliver cards and presents across the UK in all weathers.

"Royal Mail regards the giving of Christmas tips as a matter between customers and individual post people so long as nothing is expected in return."

Last Royal Mail Christmas post dates

To get your parcels, letters and cards delivered to loved ones in good time, Royal Mail has revealed the last recommended posting days:

Friday December 18: 2nd Class and 2nd Class Signed For

Monday December 21: 1st Class and 1st Class Signed For Royal Mail Tracked 48*

Tuesday December 22: Royal Mail Tracked 24*

Wednesday December 23: Special Delivery Guaranteed

Customers should note that Royal Mail Tracked 24hr and Royal Mail Tracked 48hr services are not available to purchase at Post Office branches.

It has taken awhile but it is slowly penetrating my brain. I failed to note that special delivery is not mentioned and I was unaware that tracked is only available to business accounts.

I will get my coat.

You can buy tracked from the website or app, but can't then drop them off at a post office. Says you should take them to your nearest DO enquiry office. I suppose you could also pay extra for it to be collected or put it in a parcel box.

Sorry to be smart arse, but
Print and attach your label and take your item to a Post Office ²
² If you're not using our Tracked 24 or 48 service
I knew, cos I did one last week. I assume it's because the PO doesn't sell that service.

Because they are owned by the government as a company and have about 11,000 franchises.

Article you've quoted doesn't say SD is not available at PO, states last day for posting them is 23/12.
