Question regarding being off sick while on a stage 2

Post by The Postal Avenger »

I got issued with a stage 2 a few months ago and haven't been off sick since but I caught some sort of bug yesterday and I was up most of the night being sick.

Phoned in sick today but what will it take to trigger a stage 3? If I'm off again tomorrow will that be enough to trigger it or does it have to be a seperate abscence entirley?

So long as you dont go over 7 or 10 days, not sure what it is but 1 or 2 days wont trigger it, but if you go out again b4 6 months time it will trigger a 3.

Attendance may be regarded as warranting formal action if an employee who is on trial has:

Stage 1: 2 absences or 7 days in a 6 month period
Stage 2: 1 absence in the next 2 months
Stage 3: 1 absence in the next 2 months
No triallist should have his/her appointment confirmed whilst under this procedure.

2. MINIMUM NATIONAL ATTENDANCE STANDARDS - EMPLOYEES NOT ON TRIAL
Employees who have successfully completed their trial period are still required to maintain a high standard of attendance. Attendance may be regarded as warranting formal action if an employee who is not on trial has:

Stage 1: 4 absences or 14 days in a 12 month period
Stage 2: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the next 12 months
Stage 3: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the next 12 months

In deciding whether these standards are met for employees whose trial was recently confirmed, attendance during the whole of employment is considered, not jut from the date trial is confirmed. An employee whose trial has been confirmed following an improvement to the required triallist standard will be put back to the previous stage of the Attendance Procedure but the criteria appropriate to a non-triallist will then apply. So does today and tomorrow count as two absences or is it counted as one?

Only counts as one absence. Make sure you`re completely over it before you go back because if you have another sickness within 6 months of that then you`ll be on a stage 3.

So does today and tomorrow count as two absences or is it counted as one?
An absence is any period of time that you are off regardless of its length.
But remember it is not just absences that count but also the number of days.
Also remember that the max amount of absences is either one with a max of nine days or two, six months apart not more then nine days in total.
Remember ten days off or three absences or one absence over nine days trigger a 3rd stage consideration.
You are on a stage 2 so you can be off for nine days over the twelve month period after your second stage warning.
Or you can be off twice in a twelve month period, but the second absence must be more then six months after your first absence in the stage two period.
For example if your stage two was issued on the 1st of jan and on the second of Jan you went sick for five days, then you could not go sick again untill the 8th july and then only for four days.
Remember if you go sick on a friday and return on a tueday then that is four days, but if you were sick on a fri and returned on a monday then that is one day.
That is my understanding of the absence procedure!
