Responsibility?

Post by Ren Hoëk »

Who bares the responsibility for the abject failure this Christmas has been.

It's not a surprise Christmas is in December. Every year. Same day.
It's not a surprise this was going to be the busiest Christmas due to covid.

No plan, No idea.

I think all this has done is highlight the calibre of management RM promotes. Very poor. It has highlighted that posties have been carrying delivery offices this whole time. What's worse is they probably don't think its their fault. Even worse is they probably think they are doing a good job!

Ultimately it is management responsibility to make it all work. However if some DO suffer from higher number of absences and large proportion of workforce is treated very bad throughout the year so people are not willing go the extra mile when it is absolutely required to cope with the volumes. This is why some offices are a total shambles with backlog ever increasing and stress and anxiety growing at an alarming rate.

On the other hand you may have pretty well staffed DO where people generally get treated fairly and OT is paid correctly. These places will generally benefit from goodwill of posties and Christmas will be run on the docket.

So to conclude this I would say responsibility lies with management. Some offices are challenging to manage though and to make it work one would need a miracle.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Managers don't know how to manage people. If they treated us better they would get more out of us. That being said. Our office is a shambles! Someone needs to be held accountable.

Our office is like the Wild West, lawless with people seemingly doin whatever they like with no direction or any plan from management.

There's never been the volume of packets we are seeing at the moment.

Not enough staff, not enough vans, not enough room in the office but the main thing is there's not enough hours in a day to allow you to make a dent in the workload before the next wave arrives from the MC.

All our reserves & Christmas casuals have been going out three to a van, with the driver doing packets, because he’s the only one with a PDA, it’s shambles :arrrghhh

This is the first time in my years of working in Royal Mail that I've known an email to go out to Delivery Offices that only Specials & Tracked 24s are to be sent to the mail centre. All other mail is to stay in the Delivery Office and will be collected by the nightshift drivers. Mail Centres must be full to the brim like never seen before for that email to go out.

Probably won't happen as we won't have the room or the capacity to process it

I emptied a box today, usually there’s about 10 letters in there, I empty it halfway round a loop. Today there was a full sack worth to empty, must be 300+ letters and cards. I’ve never known anything like it.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

He must be a bit strapped for cash as it looks like he has 2 jobs at the moment. Tell him there is plenty of overtime out on deliveries at the moment if he wants it.
