HCT's and Collecting Customer Parcels
'They will only be small parcels,' my manager said as i was told i had three to collect from a customer today whilst on my HCT delivery. Wrong! 3 shoe box size parcels were handed over. Had to go around half the delivery with them on top of the HCT as there was no room inside. This can't be right can it? For a start its a mails integrity failure. If it was raining it would have been ridiculous. Got no problem collecting 'small' parcels but anything larger has to be a driver collection. Don't think the customer would be too happy if i said sorry you are going to have to wait for my manager to ring a driver up to go collect. Another well thought out idea from people who have never done the job!

I would have “politely” refused rang manager for him to “organize”!!!!...collection by driver or someone ( and I’m sure you have them in your office!) on light duties/rehab to come out and collect it!!..

Re: HCT's and Collecting Customer Parcels
Best way to deal with f**k ups is to let the screws sort it. Had the same scenario, HCT duty. go collect a 'medium' parcel from a punter. Address is just over halfway through the duty but the parcel wouldn't have fitted in the HCT even if it was empty. Happily the customer was in all day and I collected it at the end of the duty and kept it on top of the HCT all the way back to the office.
1st mistake is letting Joe Public have ANY input at all, as anything between an electron and a house is medium sized apparently.
2nd is having the postie as on the spot trouble shooter instead of having a dedicated phone number for the customer to phone when it all invariably goes tits up. Like I have the time to play piggy in the middle whilst the screws try to drag some poor c*** off their parcel duty and the punter wont miss their appointment at the dog groomers

Re: HCT's and Collecting Customer Parcels
Collect the parcel as requested. Call manager to say you need it picking up from you as it’s too big. Stay with HCT and parcel until driver collects it to protect the mail. See how long that takes to happen and return what you didn’t have time to deliver as you were waiting so long for a driver
Or you could just return to the office with the parcel before recommencing delivery then cut off. Either way I bet it won’t happen again.

Re: HCT's and Collecting Customer Parcels
They should have one dedicated van delivery for the customer Parcel collection. Just picking them up ad hoc either from a P&L or HTC will never work. And if it catches on ( as it will). Coupled with Christmas and winter weather total chaos is guaranteed!

Use the failed collection option and give the customer the office phone number.

Walk straight back to office with them then walk all the way back out again and pick up where you left off. Oh and finish on time.

The option to refuse the collection is on the PDA when you scan it, I have refuse a badly wrapped parcel & the other to bulky to carry.

I don't think it's fair to have people say 'get a driver to come and get it'. Like, I'm sure they will have their own things to be doing.
Simply put it down on the PDA as failure then explain when you return to office. Take them like you did today and it will show that you can do it every other time.

If you can't shut the lid on the trolley then don't take it, and that applies to going out in the morning too. You said yourself that you breached the integrity of the mail so you know it was wrong. If the parcels got nicked you would have faced disciplinary procedures. In future I'd say refuse collection and phone manager for advice, let them deal with it.

Re: HCT's and Collecting Customer Parcels
how does your manager know what size they are? If the collections are organised through the app with customer only input, your manager is just as in the dark as you are.DiamondSmiles wrote: ↑08 Dec 2020, 14:19'They will only be small parcels,' my manager said as i was told i had three to collect from a customer today whilst on my HCT delivery. Correct. I won't be buying that from him if he says it again.xPandabear1992x wrote: ↑09 Dec 2020, 09:51how does your manager know what size they are?
