Re: Agency temps in your office?
If you're doing the job by the book it is impossible under the current circumstances. Unfortunately "Job wreckers" exist and are the majority. Those that do the job correctly with bags on the trolley, cutting off and bringing things back, checking their van thuroughly etc get looked at as being useless at the job. Do everything by the book. You'll be okay. The only thing is you'll get passive aggressive put downs from Managers and the brown-nosed runners. The cavalry aren't coming any time soon though unfortunately

Re: Agency temps in your office?
we just got a ton, 10, maybe 20. all really very nice lads and lasses, great to chat to and game for a laugh. It's good. Its' great.
Then it becomes apparent that there's no extra vans, nor any extra PDAs.
Much like the hanging around waiting for vans, it was always a first come first serve thing, and it generally kept moving.
But now you've got managers intercepting van keys and pdas as soon as they get back so that x or y postie who's covering a round on their sector, and anyone who the manager is mates with is guaranteed a van, even if they're not even tied up let alone due to start in the next 30 mins.
Meanwhile you've got 5-10 people with all their stuff together ready for delivery waiting 1/2 hours for a van. It's a shitshow.

Re: Agency temps in your office?
The biggest problem in our office is duties getting a fraction of the resources that others are getting and are expected to somehow cope.
Ex Shared van (a):
Now operating as 2 full time single drivers.
A van each.
One preps the duty in morning, the other goes out to deliver parcels for 2 hours.
Both out of the office for 9am, still leaving behind many parcels.
Both finished 1hr early.
Manager pays 2 hours OT for someone else to cover their remaining parcels.
Duty fully staffed on the duty holders days off, every single time without fail.
Ex Shared van (b):
Operating as 1 part time driver who sometimes gets a partner.
Come in at about 9am to find at least 1hr of work needing done on frame each day.
No one has been out with their parcels from 7am.
At least 3 times a week, no partner, so they need to just do parts of run number one, then number 2, on consecutive days.
On days they do get a partner the partner will need to travel to first delivery point by bus or walk, costing well over 1hr of delivery time there and back.
Rarely get their excess parcels covered by anyone else on OT.
Never, ever, have their duty covered when it is their day off.
Will often be asked to move onto a duty that's in an even worse shape, which compounds their own duty issues when they get back onto it the next day.
Expected to just get on with it and roll over to the next day.
Constant grief off management as to why they are only taking 2 bags of mail out some days.
The people in camp (b) have asked for some sort of review, you can guess how that went.

Re: Agency temps in your office?
Had 4 in my office, i know one left before the end of the 1st week.
Also got some new vans.... which are larger and so fewer can get on the dock at one time. GENIUS.

We had about 12 I think, we have under half left as they have realised how s**t it is when you don’t leave the office until 3pm and are walking around with a torch. The snow and freezing weather on Friday also finished afew of them off. Feel sorry for them, one of them told me it was mentioned there could be a full time job at the end of it if they did well, didn’t have the heart to tell them the truth.

We lost 3 of the new agency staff by day three, now there are less than half of them left.

Re: Agency temps in your office?
Ours seem to be having a very easy time of it... 3 of them getting paid 5 hours each between 2-7pm sometimes taking out less than 10 pkts each to do in that time.
As others have mentioned, they get to spend the first hour of their shift sat in the canteen playing on their phones waiting for vans to come back.
