What is the Union Doing?

Post by NewPostieUK »

Is the union working with Royal Mail at the moment to come up with a plan to deal with this new virus thing?

I know it's early days, but after only 10 months we are seeing massive increases of packets, and up to half the workforce absent.

We are getting no help in any form whatsoever, we have to just get on with it, finishing at 4pm often taking out two days worth as there is no one to cover rest days.

A plan maybe? Some help? Temps?

I can see goodwill going down the drain as fatigue and disillusionment takes over.

Maybe these plans and ideas could be carried over into Christmas, just to give us a chance of delivering most of the mail whilst still having a life, and without our health deteriorating?

Come on Union, show us what you are made of!

Nothing.

Normal Christmas pressure shite. No holidays, part timers in early to prep their own duties.
How does that help? Extra time then given extra work ie prep your duty.

Expected to work in the dark, compulsory overtime, union doing nothing.

Start on my time. Finish on my time. There is a virus out there. Government guidelines stay at home.

If you would care to educate yourself in the unions policies you would find your answer.

OT is not mandatory.

Work your hours.

Go home.

Make RM realise they need alot more front line staff not less.

All the overtime people do just papers over the cracks.

"If you would care to educate yourself ......" comes across as rather pompous iydmms.
OT is mandatory if you are on a 25 hour contract and can't make ends meet.
Yesterday at least 6 full time staff were finished by 12.30 - so how will that make RM realise they need more front line staff?
Overtime pays the bills and feeds the kids.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

my contract says 'as Royal mail is a public service in certain circumstances overtime would be expected to be worked inc bank hols and weekends' Ive also not got a start or finish time, it merely states 'you will work 25 hrs a week with your hours given to you by your manager' , it doesn't even state how many days i will work.
