Tributes have been paid to a Royal Mail distribution driver in Peterborough who passed away after a lengthy battle with Covid-19.

Dutch (Tracy) Holland, who is said to have spent around 4 decades working for Royal Mail, passed away on Monday.

CWU Eastern No5 Branch said: “It’s with the deepest regret and sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Dutch (Tracy) Holland, distribution driver at Peterborough Mail Centre.

“Our sincerest condolences to all of Dutch’s family, friends and colleagues.”

Branch secretary Andy Beeby added: “It is with deep regret that I have been informed of the death of Dutch (Tracy) Holland who sadly passed away on Monday following a lengthy battle with Covid-19.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

“Funeral arrangements will be published in due course.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We were deeply saddened to hear of the recent death of our colleague. They will be hugely missed by their colleagues. Our thoughts and condolences are with their friends, families and local communities at this difficult time.”

The Peterborough Telegraph recently revealed that six members of staff at Royal Mail’s sorting office had tested positive for coronavirus, although all were said to have recovered and returned to work.

At the time, Royal Mail told the PT: “Royal Mail takes the health and safety of its colleagues, its customers and the local communities in which we operate very seriously.”

Moreover, back in May the PT revealed there had been four positive cases at the sorting office, with posties also walking out despite Royal Mail insisting a deep clean had taken place and that safety precautions had been introduced.
