Tracked items neighbour/safeplace

Post by pauled5 »

Hello all, anyone noticed today that when you scan a tracked item to deliver that the neighbour and safeplace option is crossed off? This isn't for all tracked items though. A lot of addresses have porches or cupboards to put parcels in and you could select safeplace- porch and take a photo for proof of delivery.

Yes I’ve noticed . The majority had no option but to deliver to customer . I actually had an inflight message today to put parcel in greenhouse . Which I did but the only option was to deliver to customer ???

That's because they select the Safeplace - not you.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Yes but normally you can take a picture of the packet.

Oh well, so much for leaving a parcel with a neighbour then or safeplace. Because the option is not on the pda. Everything will have to be delivered to whoever opens the door for that household. If not then it will be p739d.

Taking a picture is NOT proof of delivery. Much the opposite - It's only proof that you have been stupid and left the item somewhere UNSAFE. You will even need to click the, "I confirm the location is safe" on the PDA before you can take the picture.

Just think about your job and P739 the damn thing
See this is where it all gets a bit weird. No place apart from the customers hands is safe. So why are we even being given the option to leave parcels anywhere else?!
If the pda alerts me the customer wants it left out of sight in their shed/garage/back garden then I usually do leave it. It’s a service Royal Mail is offering to customers which could get the staff in trouble it’s crazy.

Thing is you could hand over the parcel to the customer and they could still deny they haven't had it. Just your word against theirs. So what is the policy regarding parcels and keeping them 100% safe

You won't be in trouble for following an inflight redirection, you might be in trouble for not doing it. They've asked you to leave it. This is a new service R M are offering, not going to go down well if you ignore their instructions.

a chosen safe place by the recipient is still at our digression, dustbins are always a no, but if they select a greenhouse shed etc. and is out of sight, then if it did happen to get stolen then you'll have a photo with delivery instructions on the system where to leave it as well has a gps location to prove where you were, no way can you get disciplined for it.
the minefield is if you also left a standard parcel with it after taking a photo, then you could get in trouble, but why would you take the trouble to hide 1 item you are permitted to and p739 another?

definitely not true, it's 100% up to the postie if they want to hide it,
if you leave it in a dustbin as per an in-flight request and it gets emptied then you will be in bother
even if there's an unlocked porch and there's a suspicious looking person hanging about then you can p739 it, nothing should be said to you by a dom once you explain the situation
yes the recipient may be angry and a complaint made, but nothing will come down on you

If they request you to leave parcel then surely they are accepting responsibility for it.

Funnily enough, on the in flight screen, when selecting a safe place, the customer being delivered to completes a declaration stating that Royal Mail are not responsible for damaged or missing items once they have had photo taken and submitted by pda.

As far as I am aware the general safe place option placed on tracked items by the sender does not have this declaration.

Otherwise I would not be happy to follow the in flight instructions.

I only know this because I went to add some instructions to my own delivery that was due.
