PDA query

Post by edward918 »

Is there a way to put a large volume of parcels in order from start to finish into the PDA so that there's a route for you to follow rather than having to use Google Maps and going back on yourself multiple times?

Yes there is a route planner the lat drivers use, there is a picture of a lorry that opens the app.

Yes and it works pretty well and useful if your load is spread out as happens with the LAT packets.
Flick the front 6 app screen to the right and you see 3 apps on a second screen, tap the red screen top left and put in your office postcode/address as the start point then just scan the square 2D barcode of a parcel press confirm and do the next and so on until they are all entered.
Press optimise route and the PDA will work our the best route and give you audible instructions when you press drive. As each parcel is delivered flick the address to the right to confirm delivery and as you move off it will give you the direction to the next item.
Only pain is having to flick back to the normal scan app to scan the delivery barcode and then go back to the route app.
Two PDAs are ideal, one for route and one for parcel confirmation scans but if you can get to use 2 PDAs download a different frame delivery barcode on each , any barcode will do, as when my battery ran out and i signed in again on one pda the other with the same barcode signed out.

Give it a try, good luck.

Brilliant, thank you guys. Really could have done with this today as I had well over 80 packets to deliver, all in different areas. Was only made aware of this option on the PDA by a colleague at the end of my shift. Still, better late than never :nana

one thing with the RO+N app: it takes a fairly large amount of time to flick between that and the Outdoor app you use for scanning parcels/colods and things. It also only works half the time.

You used to be able to take 2 PDAs out, have RO+N open on one and Outdoor open on the other but since they merged them, there's been all kinds of glitches, crashes and data loss, so take the app with a pinch of salt and don't rule out writing down parcels on a piece of scrap paper.

I was delivering packets one day last week and tried it out. After scanning them all in, I got to the first drop and the scanner had stopped working. After trying backing out of menus, using different buttons, turning the screen off and on etc it still wasn't working, so rebooted the PDA. It wasted so much time and seemed very counter-intuitive. In the end I just ended up clearing them all off and using my piece of scrap paper that I (luckily) had jotted down

As well as having all the outdoor stuff in the main app, RM should have another app which is purely just the stuff needed when out on delivery. I'm wondering if some of the PDA crashes are perhaps the PDA running out of memory

I think it's a combination of not enough bandwidth and running out of memory (and of course too much rain/cold/sun/over-sensitive screens)

As you suggest, different apps for different functions would be most sensible.
