This weeks Wage slip. Union Response ?

Post by Duran »

Surely Royal Mail shouldn't be selecting mentors purely by colour of skin. This as got to be racist. On this weeks wage slip. I can only imagine the backlash if this was put on a wage slips for white colleagues. I would like to know the Unions position on this.

The union will, rightly, fully support this.

Mentoring is not limited to BAME candidates, the business is simply trying to encourage more applicants from BAME backgrounds to better reflect the make up of the business. They also directly target women again to reflect the balance in the workplace.

Why would anyone have a problem with that?

A diverse business would have printed. Any employee interested in developing. Join our mentoring programme. To only include Black Asian and Minorities is Racist, to any other colleague outside of BAME.

Like i said. Had this post on the wage slips. Just stated White candidates the memo from Royal Mail would be on the News.

Why if you wanted to increase BAME representation in the mentoring scheme to a level that accurately mirrors BAME representation in the business would you not directly ask for BAME applicants?

That's absolute crazy batshit nonsense.

Not if white candidates were needed to accurately reflect the numbers across the business but they're not because like all leadership roles in Royal Mail we are oversubscribed with white male candidates.

And mate, you have no idea what racism is.
Try not to use words you don't know the meaning of, it's just embarrassing.

White male victim liberation front.
Funny as f**k.

I'm actually mixed race. Sick to death of all this crap. I have a black Grandfather. Even he tells me. Racism today was nothing compared to the 60s and 70s. Anyone put forward for mentoring or manager. Should be done on merit. Not colour of skin.

Do not presume to know me, when i'm speaking out for equal rights for all. Not just BAME.

Get a grip man. The fact that this has annoyed you enough to make a post about it on here says a lot about the sort of person you are. Maybe stick to Facebook with posts like that.

But if BAME is under-represented why not advertise it.

Hopefully, you realise that advertising for a particular group of people to apply does not mean that other groups can't apply and that selection will be based on merit. It just means they are hoping a particular group will apply more than they have, and then apply the criteria from there.

TLDR: Applying doesn't mean getting.

I fully agree with the sentiment re: reverse discrimination and its true that any discrimination in favour of a group, by mathematics, discriminates against another group.

However, this is an algorithm box-tick exercise and a very kack-handed one since BAME doesn't actually mean anything on the shop-floor since we're all mostly this and a bit of that and some of the other. Can I appeal to my distant Irish side?...Victorian Indian?....whatever?

The only minority trying to rule the world is the minority that already runs it and always has and no algoritm tick-box exercise will apply to them, their institutions, their birth-right or their socio-economic preferences but they are more than happy to punch downwards to show solidarity with their own divide and rule narrative that sets everyone at everyone elses throats whilst pretending to fairness and equality.

This has been going-on for years and will continue to do so since to recognise it and complain is to become Pariah.

Don't sweat it, roll with it and forget it.

I'll apply and see if a bit of ancestral traveller cum Sub-Continental cum Cymry/Scot/everything Brit wins-out against skin-colour.

I'm not annoyed at asking BAME Candidates to be Mentors. I'm annoyed in the way Royal Mail have advertised this. What next. Advertise for Disabled, Gay or Colleagues over 60. Due to lack of Mentors that fit those groups. We all work for Royal Mail. We all should have the same opportunity.

One of my Grandfathers was from the Dominican Republic. Even he is sick to death of groups pushing the race card. He like myself believes pushing too hard creates more extremists. Like i said in a previous post. Racism in the 70's Compared to today. Are like chalk and cheese. In the last 50years society is moving in the right direction.

Royal mail should have had manager team talks,in areas with low BAME mentors, and encouraged BAME colleagues to apply to be mentors. Not plaster it over wage slips. Now colleagues in offices will all be discussing what was printed on their wage slip. This will cause many colleagues to be very annoyed.

I'm not a racist. I'm a mixed race realist.

You're not really getting it are you.
We all have the same opportunity to apply for a position as a mentor.
How many times do people have to tell you that?

In the last 50years society is moving in the right direction.

But we're still not at the equality destination we need to be at, so, until we all arrive at equality street we have to do all we can to bring people up, there's no such thing as too much equality, there is equality or there is inequality, we can stop when equality is reached, we keep moving forward .
