Time off other leave...
Bereavement:
It’s an upsetting time when someone close to you passes away. Managers will do their best
to allow you time to deal with your loss.
• Your manager can provide you with up to one week’s paid leave for immediate family, e.g. next of kin or
blood relative (spouse, civil partner, child, parent or sibling), to support you during this difficult time.
• If a member of your family, e.g. grandparent or parent-in-law passes away, your manager can give you
one day’s paid leave to attend the funeral.
• For wider family or friends, you can agree with your manager whether to swap shifts, make up the
time, take unpaid leave or holiday.
I 'personally' would say yes, but managers interpret agreements differently to normal folks. Sorry for your loss mate.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Is your birth parent your step parent has replaced, for want of a better word, still in your life?

If not then just say its your parent - how are they going to know any different?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
