I was asked how u cancel CWU fees. They said they asked wages bloke who said u got to phone hr up. Said I'm not sure, I told him to ask union rep but he said he won't know cause he's useless.!!. Not sure as I've never paid.

Phone CWU headquarters and say you wish to cancel your membership only takes a minute

Good luck when you are accused of something you haven’t done or make a genuine mistake and end up being sacked.

I wonder why the new starters nowadays pay for CWU membership at all as they are on limited time contracts so can be terminated with ease.
Better wait until they get a proper contract then decide if it suits them at that point.
New PTs I spoke to say they thought it was mandatory to join or they were sold that idea at the induction training day.

Fully agree with you.

As someone who has gone from part-time to full-time and now back to part-time again I would also add that the CWU is less interested in part-timers than full-timers - I have seen both sides of it for myself so am not bothered if anyone wants to disagree. When I went back to part-time I found the knowledge of the office rep was non-existent when I asked him a few questions about doing it - he gave me bullshit answers but thankfully I knew the correct ones anyway.

I remember when I started that the bloke doing the briefing at the Induction Day wasn't happy when everyone said they'd go away and think about whether to join or not.

They'll do it for you without having to ask lino to ask hr to ask payroll to ring the union.

I've recently had the luxury of cancelling mine.

People frequently bring up the whole "if you're not a member work will screw you over" argument but the thick of it is if your rep is as invisible as they are at my office you're wasting your money.

Unfortunately that’s a bit misleading nowadays - you’re protected by some pretty strong employment laws in this country. Even in a workplace with no union it’s pretty hard just to dump someone on a fabricated reason or if someone has made a genuine mistake. Mind you that’ll change in time to come as what most people don’t realise is that the laws and rights we have at work come from the EU, so god knows where that will leave employees when these laws get watered down over time.

I started 2 years ago. I had never worked in a unionized workplace before. First day at the induction and the 2nd hour was 'Join the Union'. I was the only one from a group of 12 that said I'd think about it. The rep was not impressed. I have seen nothing in the last 2 years that has made me change my mind. I am on a part time contract.

I must admit,I find all this “look at me,I’ve left the union...yippeee” nonsense a bit sickening. Do you not realise you are playing straight into RM’s hands?

my reason wasnt about pay rises , its about the company just bypassing them in everything they want to do and no fight back , waste of 2 ballots , members being treated like s**t and unreal workloads , oh and b&h has gone through the roof , and what have they done to help the paying members ? , f**k all .

who cares ? , as the company will do and get everything they want anyway , all the cwu will do is just polish a turd and make it look good to the members , are they still in talks with the company by the way ? or are they all working from home and away from this f***ing virus ? and waiting to get through the car crash called xmas on top of everything else .

You would have a lot more to moan about if it wasn’t for the union and you would be getting paid a lot less and you know it .
