I got a stage one in February and only had one absence totalling less than 10 days in the 6 months following, I had 2 week off 8 month after the stage 1 was issued yet I have been told I will be issued a stage 2. Is this right?

Attendance standards The formal process consists of two reviews and consideration of dismissal. The table below sets out the attendance standards required All employees (except triallists)

Attendance review 1 prompt 4 absences or 14 days in a 12 month period

Attendance review 2 prompt
2 absences or 10 days in the next 6 months following an attendance review 1 formal notification

Consideration of dismissal prompt
2 absences or 10 days in the next 6 months following an attendance review 2 formal notification


Employees on 2nd review who do better than the standard required with no more than 1 absence of 4 days or less will come off the formal attendance process.

Employees on 2nd review with 1 absence of more than 4 days but less than ten will revert to 1st review and will remain on Review 1 for six months.

I get that but I was on stage one not 2 so I should be in the clear am I right? Shouldn’t be on a stage 2

If the paperwork matches what you say then yes, you should be in the clear, that is an 'if' though.

If the stage 1 was issued a 'couple of months or so' after you came back from the 1st sick then you will trigger the next stage.
You need to see what the paperwork says, sometime lazy managers will hang on to a stage warning purposely and then when issued it shortens the next process.
Check the dates and come back and tell us what it says.
Possible chances are you have a case to get the stage 1 issue date changed so it now does not trigger the stage 2 8 months later!
All stages interviews should be done in a reasonable time from when you get back off sick, 2 months or so is not reasonable time!

You were off 10 days within 6 months, hence the Stage 2.

You say you were off 'less' than 10 days. I bet the manager has you down as being off 10 or more.

I work a five day week. I was absent, then went to work Friday and Saturday. I worked two days out of five, so I was sick for three right? Nope. I'm down for four days absence. Mon - Thurs.

Paperwork say 9 days on one occasion within the 6 month period, the 6 months was up a week after I had the 9 days off.

Manager’s opinion paperwork don’t say stage 1 or 2 so I asked, he said Dom said stage 2.
