Can anyone in a high position in the cwu explain how they think it's fair that 1/6th of their members that are scheduled day off on boxing day, to not get it back in lieu if the other 5/6th are having it off PLUS their normal scheduled day off that week? I guess leave reserves will all be put on Saturday off that week too.

The thinking is that it’s more like 5/6th get an extra day off. Of course, we could have 5/6 of the workforce working on the 26th, just so everyone gets their Christmas ruined.

Or just make everyone's day off the Saturday so it's fair for everyone?

Not having a go at you pal, but this just comes across as " if I'm not getting this good thing, why should anybody else"
It's a win for the majority, who will now get two days off that week. For those who aren't, including myself, it's just a normal week.its not making things worse for us, just better for most.

No as its been called as a non-service day.

How about if the majority got a pay rise and 1/6 of the posties didn't? Would that be ok or fair? An extra day off for a full timer equates to around £85 which would be the equivalent of about 0.4% annual pay rise. Does it still seem fair to everyone?

I don't see how the cwu could do anything in regards to this, no one is being denied anything legally, some are just being lucky and getting an extra day off.

The alternative and what used to happen was called claw back where the other 5/6ths would owe the business a day back.

So we either have the situation where 1\6th loses out one year but might gain next time or all of us lose out every time this happens.

So what should a union do?
