Holiday reclaim
So in the last week a line manager in our depot has went back the last ten years to "balance" holidays. Turns out theyve been putting holidays through for hospital appointments, family funerals, being off ill, all without authority from us. Not advising at the end of a year you owe holidays and letting it roll on. Some guys have been told they owe as much as 9/10 days. Is this the latest way to kick us in the balls in the lead up to Christmas.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

According to union, RM are within thier rights to go ten years or so back the way. Would they have called forward for so long. If i owed so many holidays why wasn't i told i didn't have enough to take when I put my holiday sheet in and it was authorised

Sorry don't understand this - when you say 'they've been putting holidays through....' do you mean managers have been granting 'normal holiday' forNotjustabloke wrote:...... situations which from your description could be sick leave or 'Special Leave' which can be paid leave for a day (in some cases) and then unpaid and so doesn't AFAIK
come off your 'normal' holiday allowance. There will be a Special Leave Policy somewhere on these boards/threads which you will want to check out.
I've tried looking on the RM People site for the current Special Leave document but the link to it points to business standards at the moment.

If that's the case then you should be asking them to see the last ten years leave sheets so you can see where things have gone astray. They obviously have the records if they're telling you they're wrong. I had a good manager and I also used to do the hols so I find this strange.

I was given the sheets, as were all the others also being told they owe holidays back, showing all the days that holidays had been put through for me. So my normal holidays that I'd booked has been put on (as I would expect) but also put through as holidays were days that I'd had hospital appointments, days id asked for to attend family health situations, days where they'd said works quiet just go home if you like (between Christmas and New year) you know, that golden time where we're not allowed to book holidays, to attend funerals, basically any days that id asked for outside my holidays and was expecting it to be unpaid they put through as holidays, all without my knowledge or authority, unfortunately they generally tied into a month where id had booked holidays so i never noticed it on my wage slip.
I just don't understand why if over the years i owed them holidays, why did the continue to authorise my requested holidays. Surely someone must check this at the end of the year

It was their mistake and you are being asked to pay for it?
What does your rep say?

Rep says they're entitled to go back this far and check and the only way anything will change is if we can prove we actually worked on those days, then they will amend. Says its something to do with the new annual leave system being put in place and apparently they'll never get it wrong like this again. Thing is if you were given a sheet with your last five years holidays on it, could you pin point where you were on individual days. It's not an easy task, the only thing I'm certain of is that i never asked for any individual day off as holoidays, why would i lose my annual leave for hospital appointments, funerals etc I was a whole night back checking my Google time line, Facebook etc to jog my memory where I'd been on these days "holiday" got back to 2016/17 and gave up. One lad was caring for his mother after a heart attack, they put that through as holidays. Another lad had two weeks holiday taken off him while he was shielding. Usual little to no help from union, who apparently agreed this new holiday system. Seriously starting to womder just what i pay my dues for. So I'm guessing it's just my line manager at our depot who's done this and no one else has taken this hit yet

The loss of holiday through shielding happened to everyone doing so. If you had annual leave in that period you couldn't claim it back.

Holidays were taken from people who were shielding if they were booked but this was expected. We weren't on the sick so I was ok with that.
Which leave sheets have you been given? Leave sheets from PSP are more accurate than leave sheets from MPP. PSP actually pays the wages so that will give you a better idea.
Normally I wouldn't read anything into it but RM have been building up a massive surplus of outstanding leave and I think there's a focus on it now. This smells a bit fishy to me and I would want to see more evidence before I accept it.
