Working for Amazon Part Time
Hello all, hope you are all well and coping. really seeking some advice from all you clued up folk out there. Ive been seeing a fair amount of jobs up working for Amazon in their hubs listed around the net working part time. Im on a part time contract as Postperson working min of 27.5 hours a week. Ive been put up to work 1pm starts and have been since they have been available (due to Covid) so getting any overtime other than rest days is next to impossible. My issue is that Ive been told that working for Amazon is to work for the competitor. Is that the case as really Amazon are an online retailer that deliver for themselves unlike Ups, Fedex, Dhl etc. I mean, I'm fairly sure I couldn't walk into Amazon with a letter or parcel and have it sent and delivered for me right? Seems unfair that you are expected to get by on 27.5 hours a week with no sign of overtime but you can't help yourself by finding alternative employment. Would you all really agree with those that deem Amazon to be a competitor? Thanks in advance all!

It mentions not working for competitors but i can’t see how they are a competitor when they are a retailer that driver their own goods. They said I could drive for Tesco but not work for Amazon. It’s weird because Amazon are basically a huge online shop not a delivery service. Just seems unfair that you are given such a low amount of hours but aren’t allowed to go and work somewhere else to make up the difference. I mean how many managers would happily drop their salaries and work 27.5 hours a week and be happy. That’s the problem with having to work 1pm starts, no vans available before that as all taken so no chance to work more. Thanks though.k979aaa wrote:I my day you could not do so look at your contract and see what if anything it says.

If you do work for them they could terminate your contract so you could look to cover absence overtime just let the managers know you will be available.

They deliver their own goods like PcWorld, Tesco etc. That’s the annoying thing they are an online retailer. Royal Mail are a delivery service. Amazon couldn’t deliver your mail.cpsteve wrote:They do deliver so id say yes.

Amazon will deliver any contract they can get their hands on not just their own stuff. They are a competitor like it or not. If you have done 1pm’s since the start of Covid it wouldn’t be unreasonable to ask to go into mornings. Do you have kids?

They are absolutely a competitor. You'll get sacked if you go for it.
If youre not happy with part time work go join another company

I disagree, wiki both companies. One is a retailer one is a delivery service. It’s really quite obvious.Munchboii wrote:They are absolutely a competitor. You'll get sacked if you go for it.
