It seems like there is no way in to transfer from a postie to the mail centre even though our mail centre has around 1000 staff. I know some are on agency work but a lot are permanent and for two years ive never seen a job advertised. I was also informed you cannot transfer until a vacancy comes up.
So how are people working there for years if no jobs ever come up?

Hi hewittinspain,
It is still possible to transfer to a local Mail Centre, in extreme circumstances on medical grounds.
We have had several over the years transfer in, main causes seem to mental health issues (dog bites making you afraid to do a walk etc)
Best way is to try and get overtime first, get to know managers etc and make yourself useful.
Be aware though that Mail Centres have borne the brunt of closures over the years, and with the advent of Parcel sort machines that is likely to accelerate.

Think we've had three permanently transfer to the MC from my office over recent years and all of them were due to medical reasons?

Outside of Xmas pressure there aren't that many sit-down jobs in MCs these days. Them few sit down jobs might potentially already be spoken for with the MCs own DDAsPostie45 wrote:yep its where they send the people unable to do the walking element of the job anymore, saves them having to pay them off.Judgee wrote:Think we've had three permanently transfer to the MC from my office over recent years and all of them were due to medical reasons?

Without trying to sound condescending. Walking around a MC is slightly different to doing "A walk". I can see why knackered posties end up there.SpacePhoenix wrote:Outside of Xmas pressure there aren't that many sit-down jobs in MCs these days. In MCs (at least locally) managers are always monitoring performance. You can be put on any section that you've had training for at anytimeRen Hoëk wrote:Without trying to sound condescending.
