Base and 6 fitting. Does it work for those that have it?

Post by postiewhite »

For those that don't know what it is, they have basically consolidated two fittings into one removing any single slots and having a smaller fitting for one person to prep both duties. We started it a week ago although I was off last week but have come back today to loads of posties moaning that this is a stupid idea.
The way we seem to be doing it is that one person preps and then has to tie up and bag BOTH duties whilst his part time partner does around 45 mins of parcel deliveries( not good if your duty is 6 miles away) or loading the van. I know its new to our office but I can only see this adding time on because I would say the average time for one person to do their redirections, tie and bag up can take around 25 mins so one person will now need 45-50 mins to tie both duties up.
I take it this idea is more tailored for Covid in mind not time saving.

Is base and 6 coming to all offices???

It definitely creates more space in the office but your own personal prepping space is tight, no room to prep door to doors and will be dreading the day we have 4+ to prep up. Single slots will now turn to double slots now. Having only one on frame doing everything indoors will only lose you valuable time. I suppose its getting used to your new role especially if you are a part timer because you are not allowed near your frame so its a case of getting everything else ready I guess such as Pda, 1pms, etc. I thonk its all about adapting to it but im a bit sceptical

Thats going to be a nightmare, 1/2 slots with tiny writing/numbers, get a few busy houses that get 4+ thick magazines and so much time will be lost just trying to squeeze mail into the frame, there's going be some very stressed posties.

We've had this and it is difficult to work with , especially if you have a large delivery. Our office used these for the shared vans AND we also put most of the rural onto them. This causes problems as trying to double prep rurals that you don't know is difficult and when it comes to tying up there is no space. We are now later leaving the office so the pressure overtime has increased. I don't think it has made our office very efficient at all...... but we do have LOADS of space

I can't see the logic of this. Surely your Van share duties are on adjacent frames? If so then one OPG could prep both frames while the other one is delivering parcels. Why try and squeeze both duties onto one frame with all the associated problems?
The only logical reason I could think of is if you'd moved to a smaller Delivery Office. :hmmmm

We've have quite a few OPGs double prepping on standard frames (some are about 20m distance) it's not a problem. In fact I've seen some duties that are so BIG they've cobbled together two full size frames!

This just sounds like Change for Changes sake, and makes no sense at all. :cuppa

Ive prepped on this for two days and its a nightmare. Firstly you now have 2 less packet shelves on top of your fitting so you now have to put some packets on the floor as there is no room. Also its now double slots and my round gets loads of flats (brochures etc, Radio Times etc) so they are now jammed in with the d2ds and now there is no space. Im losing around 45 minutes on a morning on the frame because of the above issues, that is over a bag of mail in time lost!! The only time you can claw back some time is when your partner goes out for an hour on packets when under normal circumstances they would be tying up a duty.
Xmas will be a complete nightmare

That’s what they say. Until you come in one Monday and they have merged another office into the spare space created.

We've got some overtime bandits that spend so long in the Office I'm sure they've got a sleeping bag under their frames. They're there when you come in first thing, and they're waiting about for SA collections when you go home. Some are so sad they come in to do collections and cover the odd duty when they're supposed to be on leave FFS!

I've spoken to a few about the excessive hours they work and most give the "Well I need the money" answer, which is fair enough if you do. However they then go on to show everyone the latest crap they've ordered off e-bay. :arrrghhh Would be more understandable if they needed it for the rent. :cuppa

Base and 6?
Is that a base unit and 6 sections (4 high)?

We had them once, now have gone even bigger.
