I know holidays are in hours now, but how do they work it out? for instance we have a member that was on a 20hr contract, he has changed office to a 25hr contract, he gets 6 weeks holiday, due to the change he has lost a few days holiday, the manager is saying its because of the change of contract, only thing is the guy has 23 years in, so gets 6 weeks automatically, have asked area rep and he is seeking clarification as to how they work it out, my advice being a new rep was phone HR, anyone know?

It depends when he was made up to 25hrs and how much leave he had taken up to that point. Lets say he was made up halfway through the tax year and he had already taken two weeks. He'll be entitled to half his leave at 20hrs and half at 25 hours. That's 135 hours. If he's already took 40 hours (2 weeks) then he has 95 hours left to take. However that won't cover his remaining four weeks at 25 hours. He'll be five hours short so loses a days leave.
Conversely if he had taken four weeks leave before being made up he would gain a days leave.

thanks guys, thats really helpful, I don't think the manger is trying to fiddle him its just its hard to understand, so as he qualifies, for 6 weeks due to length of service, then it still comes down to what contract he's on then?
and again thanks
and again thanks

It's just an anomaly this year because he's been made up to 25 hours part way through the year. After this year he'll get his full six weeks at 25hrs.apple wrote:thanks guys, thats really helpful, I don't think the manger is trying to fiddle him its just its hard to understand, so as he qualifies, for 6 weeks due to length of service, then it still comes down to what contract he's on then?

I had a differing experience from that being quoted. I changed contract half way through a year (contract increase) didn't lose any time at all.
(Thought I was going to lose around a day or two). Still got the allocated time off (in terms of weeks), it's just that PSP accounts for it in hours.
If he's been in the requisite number of years to get 6 weeks annual, he gets 6 weeks annual. His weekly contracted hours don't
affect the number of weeks he gets. PSP accounts for it in hours.
If you read the document Ninja posted the relevant quote is:

...... Leave entitlements and the principles of how this is allocated will not be changing whatsoever.

I don't think leave entitlement and the way it is allocated are relevant to the topic. Leave entitlement has never changed and the process of allocating the leave has also not changed unless by local agreement.yellowbelly wrote:I had a differing experience from that being quoted. The document explains fully how leave was to be allocated in the years following the move to PSP. The part where it says leave shortfall will be waived was only during the transition period.
As I explained earlier in the thread, whether you lose hours or gain hours depends on when you were made up and how much leave you had taken up to that point. If for example you had a contract increase exactly half way through the year and had taken half of your leave at that point then your hours will match up exactly.
