Long term sick / light duties / recovery from surgery.

Here is a "hypothetical" question, which is concerning me at the moment.

Lets assume that an OPG is currently off sick (and has been since end of July), due to neurological issues.

What would happen if the OPG was encouraged back into the office to do light duties, until a time that they see their neurosurgeon to find out about treatment plan? Would that be a stage 1 attendance warning?

What then, if the OPG gets surgery, and then has to take time off to recover. Would that then trigger a stage 2, although both absences were linked?

Shouldn't. as the second absence was caused by an operation that would enanle them to go back to full time

Hypothetically the rep should be enlisted to impress upon the hypothetical screws that issuing a 2nd stage warning would be a no no. It'd get kicked out if they tried to build a stage 3 with that particular iffy stage 2. But you know what some of the screws are like....hypothetically.

Hypothetical update.

OPG has had telephone consultation with neurosurgeon. Neurosurgeon thinks that surgery will not resolve the issues (weakness in the OPG's legs, needing crutches to walk about). So Neurosurgeon has referred OPG on to see neurology department for further tests and investigations (potentially to rule out multiple sclerosis)... SO perhaps an appointment with Occupational Health may be a good idea? Especially if they recommend that the OPG could do indoor work only for the forseeable? Certainly it seems to be going to be a long process for diagnosis, treatment and recovery for the OPG.
