Black History Month

Post by weary_posty »

A hot topic right now and a subject close to my heart. For weeks I’ve been wearing a small BLM badge on my jacket. I’ve had a few of my customers see it and speak to me about the movement, mainly positive with the odd negative.
My question is, what are Royal Mail doing to raise awareness? Yes, I’ve seen the post marks on the envelopes and I imagine there will be some stamps but who really pays attention to that?

My idea would be for Royal Mail to make up some black polo shirts. It would be good PR for Royal Mail but more importantly be enough of a statement for customers to question why we’re wearing them which in turn raises awareness. Does anyone know who to contact (not the courier) to suggest this?

I want a pink one for gay rights. Seriously with the world in the state it is, its not just about one movement. All lives matter in this current climate.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

What about the rest of the LGTB+ movement

Mind you I am of the opinion that just because one group focuses on an issue doesn't mean they don't support others. After all BLMAW isn't quite as catchy as BLM.

Also Black History and BLM are not the same group and RM hasn't endorsed BLM.

Black Lives Matter does not mean that other lives don't matter.
It means that for far too long black lives haven't mattered.
If you believe that all lives matter equally then you would support BLM.
Supporting the aims of the BLM movement does not mean you have to support everything done in its name.
Only in the world of The Sun and the Daily Mail is that a reality.

Couldn't agree more mate.
Coronavirus has to be the priority at the moment.
Even more so considering the Bame community are at increased risk.
Also puzzles me why they go to protest that black lives matter, actually endangering those very same lives in the process! Kind of defeats the object in my opinion.

And sadly that attitude is why many people don't post on this and similar debates on other forums.
"You don't support the aims of the BLM movement? Clearly you're some sort of racist, whether you openly acknowledge it or not".
So then rather than debating BLM the poster then has to defend his attitudes to race against the spurious reasoning of total strangers.
Sad times for the liberal freedom of thought and expression we've enjoyed for so long in the UK..

As is the case in so many areas of life these days; public opinion is largely grounded in the middle, but the loudest voices are way out there on the fringes in a media environment where the most obnoxious win the most attention. Most people just want to live a quiet life; and when a mob (virtual or real) descends on you demanding orthodoxy, very few are willing to stick their neck out over it.
The machine stops.

Where does it all end I was an immigrant Irish person whose people have suffered probably more than most. The days of the signs in Windows no blacks no Irish are gone. I don’t want a green T Shirt.

We were happy to be there and 95% of the time were made welcome. It’s about time our coloured brothers demonstrated a bit of appreciation for the welcome and opportunity they have been given. If things are so unfair they are free to leave. Always found talking to the older generation of coloured people they were happy to be part of the community and the opportunity to progress.
Time to grow up bro’s.
