Hello,25 years service and have lost faith in Terry Pullinger last 2 years.I hope i can eat my words and eveything will be half decent for a few years.But i dont think this man is upto the job am I alone feeling like this?

I have had the misfortune to be in a room with him.
I wasn't impressed then and I haven't seen or heard anything to change my mind.

Agreed.Fed up with the bluster and still not being told anything.Sat through the Facebook sessions and learnt nothing.

Hes a blowhard with no brains. Bit like Trump or Boris Johnson, shout slogans that people want to hear but when reality sets in they have nothing. I have zero faith in him coming out with anything decent from these negotiations. He is Royal mail managements dream and they seen him and Dave Ward coming a mile off.

The thing is, most people I know aren't even bothered about a wage rise - it's not the first thing on my mind.
Only recently he's alluded to things not being so well for some offices and the people within them, 'staff are at breaking point' was the term he used - welcome to the party matey, it's been like this for over 6 months now. Is this news just reaching him now?

Pay rise is the only thing on my mind - we are going too be shafted one way or another, so we should at least get something out of it. Union at national and local level has been in management pockets for a long time, getting seriously pissed off now.

What type of rise are you hoping for? I don't think I've ever seen anything more than a £10 per week rise, which will no doubt get absorbed by a cut in overtime/allowances elsewhere.
In order, my preferences:

Job security
Sort the mess out that was caused with the sudden cessation of van shares.
Move all the working practices firmly into covid secure/compliant methods and stop waiting for the virus to go away - newsflash - it's endemic now and here to stay.

You're not alone.

I joined RM when the dispute was starting to heat up and was dead enthusiastic about what the union were fighting for and to get involved in the fight. We balloted and then what happened? The Union filmed all the posties opening mail at the office (intended to big up The Dispute, I'm sure) and it gave a legitimate reason for the Government to declare the ballot null and void. That really f****d me off. Way to undermine our cause. Never mind the bloody election.

Then COVID came along and everything went tits up. Royal Mail barely did anything, no social distancing in the office, 90% of the workforce working shoulder to shoulder as normal, not adequately splitting shifts down to mitigate viral spread at the office. At all.

And since COVID, all the union seems to have been doing is going on Facebook and posting either bullshit articles or using very very wordy soundbites to tell us "nothing's happening at the talks" or "we can't tell you anything, we promised royal mail we wouldn't". The Union has had so many opportunities to hold RM to account for horrific failings and have they heck as like.

I can understand why the coming of COVID has put the dispute on hold, but it's the fact that COVID has been put on hold by both RM and the Union that's damaging.

I'd like to think that I have faith in the union but it's slipping and if I'm honest, I have enough on my plate at the moment, as I'm sure we all do.

Yeah the time they screwed up the ballot by posting members voting on Facebook was shambolic. Then afterwards instead of owning their mistake they tried to blame the courts and the “establishment” for blocking the strike. No. You massively f****d up and let the members down just bloody admit it.
I cancelled my membership few weeks back and I’m more sure it was the right thing to do with each passing day.

If you think you would be better off without a union you are deluded. Unity is Strength. We are where we are, but people leaving only weakens our position.

I’m aware a unionised workforce is better than the alternative and it was a hard choice to leave. I may rejoin once Pullinger and Ward have gone but while they are still
running the show then I’ll save my few quid a week. Just how I feel I’m afraid.
