Working whilst on Annual Leave

Post by Lou84 »

I thought the Union had stopped the whole working whilst on Annual Leave thing ?

It seems to be happening more and more at my office especially since COVID, surely its stopping others from having leave ?!

There's so many people with outstanding leave that surely more places could have been opened up

Taking Leave

Employees may not attend the office whilst on annual or other leave. This means that employees may not attend the office to work overtime or Scheduled Attendance.

Because the full timers are the majority and the majority vote them in.
Removing overtime from full time staff (although the correct thing for a trade union to do) would be like shooting themselves in the head.
Actually the CWU would gain more in subs if more p/t were moved to improved contracts at the expense of full time overtime but they don't seem bothered about part timers subs. I'm not sure why we bother paying them at all.

Should a trade union focus on creating employment and lifting people out of poverty or should the rep make sure him and his mates keep their 12 hours SA each week. It's a no-brainer really.

I’m not sure why you think the CWU can allow or stop things to do with your employment. They are not your employers or pay your wages, they are your representatives and act on our behalf by mandate and ballot subject to the rules of the country.

Because it is a CWU rep who sits in meetings with management.
There is little or no oversight from Area/Branch as to what they are agreeing to.
And that person doesn't even have to be elected by their members.

Thats the point i was trying to make, if people are working overtime all the time shouldn't there be a permanent upgrade of hours for part-timers?
