Unrealistic workloads

Post by MinTee »

Don’t know about anyone else’s office but the workload here is unmanageable now.

Walks not going out for days, piling up, being told to only deliver tracked and specials. This has been the case since van sharing ended due to Covid. Managers bullying, hiring non drivers and forcing people to cover their parcels. Then collections on rounds and now absorption/lapsing has been reintroduced. Endless complaints from people on rounds not receiving items, really should be told to complain to ofcom as the company isn’t upholding the service.
People like me who are reserve are moved pillar to post and always shafted with a walk with multiple days work.

It’s so bad now the atmosphere inside is just horrendous.
Still got people rushing around to make time, over timers getting looked after.
There’s a few like myself that will just work to time and cut off but we get bullied and shat on by management.

Where’s the union amidst all of this?
When will this end?

Exactly the same at my office. Whenever I try to cut off or stand up for myself I get told from management that I have an 'attitude'.

It’s the same up and down the country. Staff are completely demoralised now. Every day you walk into work and you just know there’s going to be too much and once again have to have the same argument with your manager re cutting off. I honestly don’t see what the big deal is? Told my manager today I would do my best but wouldn’t complete, the reply from him was “well your best ain’t good enough then is it”.

Console yourself with the knowledge that your best is better than his best.

Maybe your managers could stay in work past 11am and come and help finish the walks if they are so easy ......show me brother how to do it.

If a manager ever had the audacity to tell me my best wasnt good enough I would be asking if he or she would prefer I was put out with the worplace coach for retraining in that case

Im sure my best would suddenly be good enough
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I was on holiday on the Isle of Wight a few years ago and from the bus you could see that a manager was out doing a delivery

Where’s the union amidst all of this?
When will this end?
Some of us are double prepping walks and going on the main sorting or tracked to help.
Some are getting away with murder

Union - hiding.
When will this end? - It won't, sorry. They've opened Pandoras box on this with too many sweetheart deals to keep certain people onside.
We've lost a huge amount of staff over the past 5 months, sackings, resignations, plus others going long term sick that I'd imagine won't be returning/seeking IHR.
Every single one of them were performing the job to the absolute best of their abilities but unable to cope with the constant pressure to make up the extra workload now that we don't van share.
On the flip side, the other half of the office who are using cars etc are loving the job just now - they say it's great and the job has never been so good, straight home after last letter an hour (plus) early each day. Nice way of thinking when others have lost their jobs. For the record, I ignore all of this going on, but it doesn't really sit too well with me how much some are 'enjoying' the current predicament.

Do you get traffic forecasts in DOs or do you just have the figures based on containers scanned to DOs?

You can only do what you can do in the time you've got. I'm a 25 hr P/Timer. At the start of all this COVID packetfest I was coming in to sackfuls (2 or 3 full mailbags) of packets to sort after my round had 'been prepped' every day, so I called the DOM over, told him how long it would take to sort them, bundle up, get to the start of the walk, get back at the end of the walk and have my break and that I'd therefore have approximately 2.5 - 2.75 hrs left to deliver mail so which 5 or 6 loops did he want me to do, and which 5 or 6 to leave?
That lasted a few days then my packets were suddenly always sorted so I got more time on delivery - I'm still leaving around a row of mail (Tue, Fri, Sat) and up to 2 rows (Weds, Thurs). Mondays are the only day I'm clearing a frame.
I was happy enough to help out in the past and do a bit of O/T to clear each day, but if they're not paying O/T then :wave bang on finishing time as far as I'm concerned.
The posties still running round like blue-arsed flies while the company are saving ££MILLIONS££ in O/T payments off the back of them must be blinking barmy :arrrghhh

Yup, my manager has barely spoke to me since tuesday because i refused to sort someone else's (3)packet bags for them. The person who was meant to be doing it was hungover standing outside the building smoking. We all get paid the same wage to do the same job......apparently.
