Ear infection??? , dizziness and blocked hearing.

Post by postiewhite »

For the last week ive had some hearing loss in one ear more than likely due to impacted ear wax. Today the ear is blocked, feeling a bit of pain and its making me unbalanced. Tomorrow is my day off so I will be phoning the doctors in the morning hoping I can get a phone consolation or a slot to see him. Im not sure what to do about work for Tuesday if i dont get any relief from the systems. Is this a 'man up' and go in scenario or take a few days out. What worries me is the driving aspect because the loss of one ear and pain makes things feel strange in myself and unbalanced a bit when walking plus I dont feel myself with this.

I had that mate but in both ears, GP’s don’t do syringeing any more you’ll have to go to Specsavers or Boots it’ll cost about £50-60 but bloody worth it

An ear infection can have potentially serious consequences including sepsis, I certainly don't think it's a situation where you should 'man up".

You would almost certainly be advised not to drive by a GP.

P. S. You don't have your ears syringed with an ear infection, that's bloody dangerous. That's only for a build up of wax.

If it’s wax blockage doctor won’t clear it have to buy kit..(not cheap.)my wife’s a nurse she got me a syringe..you tubed what to do and did it myself..warm water stand upright and squirt..make sure it’s blocked and not an infection first from your doctor..ps the procedure of clearing it is painless just feels a bit weird the relief when it unblocks is something else.good luck..

Syringing was stopped years ago i have mine cleaned out roughly every two years (some people are just prone to build up of wax)my doc (private )literally vacs it out main rules are dont poke cotton buds into ears as it pushes wax further in .dont put water in ear (causes infection) he recommends one drop of olive oil in each ear once a week it keeps the wax moving out of the ear. good luck as i have suffered in the past

Could also be labyrinthitis which can last for weeks. Very unpleasant. Makes you feel run down and quite unwell. Definately not a return to work if no better by Tuesday, doctor will sign you off over the phone.

He stated it was probably impacted ear wax, that’s normally a cause of dizziness

The point is he doesn't know.
It's not usually painful if it's just blocked.

This is the NHS advice if you have any pain in your ear. .

Do
use painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (children under 16 should not take aspirin)

place a warm or cold flannel on the ear

Don't
do not put anything inside your ear, such as cotton buds

do not try to remove earwax

do not let water get inside your ear

I had mine washed out by a nurse at gp surgery couple of years ago. Wasn't aware you now have to pay for it!
No pain at all. Was just given the advice above, don't use buds, use a drop of olive oil, avoid getting water in ears.

There's someone local to me who does home visits to clear ear wax, she uses some kind of vacuum to suck it out. I think it costs £20 per ear if i remember correctly.

Google it and you might someone local to you?

My mother went to the doctor's the nurse stuck a pin in her ear then a cotton bud hard after causing much pain she said her ear was blocked with wax duh! NHS doesn't like to syringe ears so advices olive oil might work in some mild cases she insisted they booked her in for six months time my mother was getting dizzy spells and bad ear ache someone suggested the opticians so should have gone to.....might be less than £50 but did the job.....pain or pay sometimes.
This was pre lockdown imagine it now.....good luck getting yer ears back!
