I’ve been thinking the same last few days , shares are climbing steadily, maybe a tip off that the regulator has agreed to change the uso to make Royal Mail more profitable maybe ?

Or maybe because.......

As it is share prices which fluctuate constantly you will find there is no straight answer to this phenomenon.

My pennies worth would be that due to the country and possibly global recession that Royal Mail share price had reached it's bottoming out price, due to the shortening games, then it would be a much better prospect to buy than global companies who will fall in the coming days, weeks and months.

From a share forum:

From a reliable source is deal is almost done. The I needs to be dotted and the T,a crossed. The SWW on hold and only a pay rise with inflation backdated to 2019 no compulsory job losses.. please don’t shoot me but if true then a sigh of relief for all

So it would seem the possibility of a deal in the very near future aligning the business needs for rapid change with none of the CWU demands for a SWW etc, was all it took to raise the share price.
Now all we need to know is what Kretinsky intends to do ........

IF that is true then I will be leaving the union because it reads like the union have got nothing and Royal
Mail have gained everything they wanted. Just speculation at the moment though so let’s see what happens.

Why would it be bacdated to 2019? - we had a pay risel that year so any backdated rise would be from April 2020.

Share price may be influenced by the Czech billionaire increasing his stake further - he had around 13% a few weeks ago. Possible update on holding in next few days....

I presume because we accepted a lower offer on the assumption the working week was also going to be shortened.
A pay rise for p/t staff and a pay increase for full time staff never happened.

Anyway I was only quoting wolves postie on a share forum. He might have got it all wrong.

The hour off in October 2019 would be equivalent of a 2.4% rise, so that will defo have to have been factored in to any negotiations, considering we would also be due another hour off this October.

It always rises before the employee shares are purchased then it drops straight after.

How can there be a shortened working week when our duties are still designed to a 40 hour week? In fact, it’s been so long since there have been any revisions to duties that online shopping has gone through the roof and many new houses have been built, and it would take well in excess of 40 hours to deliver the letters and parcels during a ‘normal’ time, never-mind the Christmas levels of parcels we’re having to deliver since lockdown; yet the union wants a 35 hour week??!! So after 35 hours our pay goes down (yes, in what other company does your hourly rate actually go down when you reach overtime?!) - we’ll be doing the same amount of work and more for less pay! In order to successfully implement a shorter working week (whereby your duty actually would take 35 hours to sort and deliver over 5 days - it should only be during exceptional circumstances when overtime is required) RM need to recruit yet all they talk about is the constant rhetoric of losing money and the necessity of redundancies!!!

Sorry but this is utter nonsense.

The shorter working week is or rather was being implemented to take into consideration increased automation meaning less indoor work would be required.

It's 1 hour spread across the week. I.e 12 minutes per day.
