Sick absence in 4 years

If your record is clean, you have 6 months off on full sick pay.
If you came back to work for a year, for example, then was off sick for 6 months, would the 2nd absence be on full sick pay or half pay?
Another way of putting it, are you entitled to a year's full sick pay in any 4 year period or is that made up of 6 months full and 6 months half pay?

If you've had 6 months off & a year later you want another 6 months off but only if you get paid, why?

You are only entitled to six months full pay then six months half pay over a 4 year rolling period the revert to ssp

Does there come a point when an employer can offer you IHR if you are off for 6 months, present for 1 year, off for 6 months, present for a year....?

why would they offer IHR, the person would probably be on no pay by that point, what would be the incentive to pay them out if they are costing them nothing?

Assuming you meet the required standards ( =1 absence of 4 days or fewer) your record "clears" after 6 months from the date of issue of the AR1/2 or stages 1 and 2 as some may know them.

So basically full pay would be attained if you were off sick for 6 months, come back and get stage warning, work for 6 months, go off sick for 6 months....

No - you appear to be confusing having a clear sick record and your entitlement to sick pay.
Just because you are no longer on a stage warning, if you have used up all your sick pay entitlement, then you have used up all your sick pay entitlement.

6 months full pay 6 months half pay on a 4 yr rolling cycle. if you were off for 6 months on full pay then came back and worked a full year then went sick again, you would get a few weeks full sick pay then go down to half. (you build back up some of the full sick pay when you are back at graft for the year)

OK, gotcha. So would the same be for say, 5 months sick pay, then return for a year. At which point sick again, you'd maybe have 6 weeks full pay, then down to half?
So in summary, over a 4 year period you will only get paid for 6 months at full pay (plus whatever entitlement you've built up by returning to work). It's just one part of the job that I've never understood (thankfully never needed to).

Yes... I speak from experience unfortunately. Used up almost all my full sick pay in 2010 with knee replacement....then back for 14 month only to have to get the other one done....2nd time got me about 8 weeks full pay then dropped down to half.

Do Royal mail have to write to you and inform you that your sick pay is about to/will drop to half pay? Any notice period in advance of it happening?

You can only get SSP for 28 weeks that run along side your sick pay basically part of your sick pay if your pay ends and you run out of SSP too you will be on nil pay.
