I genuinely feel for you, but a roll away after two rtcs in the space of year does appear excessive. I'm sure if as you say you've had no knocks in your time driving you may be unlucky, but Royal Mail don't know that.

I'd hold out. People have been sacked in our place and given 7 weeks to appeal in which they've carried on working. You could use that 7 weeks to find work and at worst it's another 7 weeks money, if you resign straight away that might be that. Good luck.

Another consideration - it's hard to get any government allowances if you resign from a job.

Maybe if it was your own vehicle you'd been driving there wouldn't be the 3 incidents you've mentioned above ? Roll-always can cause serious injury...and take life. I recall a tragic incident recently in the Shetland Islands where the postie was killed trying to stop his van going over a cliff edge. A tragic disaster does not even come close to describing such a thing.

I'll not suggest you're a fool...as you've done so earlier yourself ! If you were the employer...and it was your business and reputation being affected ..would you retain an individual such as yourself ? Sure, we've all made mistakes...and I wish you all the best....but can I suggest not lying to any future employer...there needs to be mutual trust and respect in an employment relationship...and dishonesty ain't part of that. Good Luck.

Did you have a driver induction course when you commenced employment? Also when you had your first incident did they reassess your driving, ie send you out with a Royal Mail driver instructor? You could try saying that you would be willing to do just barrow duties for the time being !

Are you a union member? Contact your area rep if your DO rep can`t help, hopefully area rep can do something about it.

The office now gets fined for all rtc reported. Think 5,000 for shared vans and 10,000 for transits. Although this is only a paper exercise it shows up on the kpi for the unit. Managers seem to be using the conduct code for any vehicle related incidents and this includes speeding tickets.

Obviously before getting to a conduct charge the manager should have followed the rtc procedure.

I have attached procedure.

If manager has bypassed this agreement and gone straight to conduct then both you and rep should raise this.

Firstly if a regional manager is carrying out the case then they are after dismissal as he would be the appropriate grade to dismiss. If it was your local manager you would likely be facing a anything up to a warning. Your best bet is to plead a case to the dismissing manager. They wont care about staff shortages in your unit trust me they want rid of people due to covid. Just be honest and put a good case as to not dismiss you.

Can't offer any help to the OP but it seems to me if anyone does have a ''roll away'' then as long as they're sure there are no witnesses or cctv cameras that could have recorded the incident... then they'd be far better off saying they were at the wheel manoeuvring the van and their foot slipped off the brake or clutch pedal resulting in the bump.

The only thing the guy did wrong was to forget to turn the wheel and leave it in gear its easily done when you are doing so many drops, it would be harsh to lose your job id say a two year serious would be enough i just cant understand how you get a two year for two minor knocks, that is something that can happen to any driver however good.

Are you aware of any other Posties being let off for similar or disciplined to a lesser level? If so, you could highlight such as not being consistent, and you are being singled out unfairly.
I have known of Posties losing their licence, ( not drink or drug related ) and being put on walks during the ban.
