Anyone else have a quiet Monday,? never really sure if it is simply a low mail volume day,or some cataclysmic failure in not getting all the mail down to us,the boss doesn’t comment on it and we don’t ask,I guess tomorrow may have that answer,,it’s my day off so not my worry

Wouldn't it make more sense to remove Saturday and roll the Saturday traffic onto Monday and Tuesday. Every other postal service in the world that's gone from six days to five has moved to Monday - Friday.
Get rid of the archaic system of 1st and 2nd class mail which relies upon extremely ecologically damaging and financially inefficient air transport, move everything back on to the rail and road network, have a uniform one price system and smooth the traffic out over the week.
If Royal Mail are going to pressure for change in the USO in order to ensure its long-term survival there's no point in looking for half a solution and still shackling yourself to ridiculous performance targets that no other competitor has to meet and are not fit for purpose in the 21st century.
Performance should be measured by distance travelled which is the single most direct driver of cost and efficiency , if you post something in Cornwall and it's going to Inverness you should expect it to take longer than if you post something going to another street in the same town, that's something so intuitive even the public could understand it but it's not how we work for some bizarre reason.

I see this said on here all the time, it just doesn't make business sense.koolishy67 wrote:I think Monday is going soon for letter delivery nothing today
Letter volume may be falling but business's still want deliveries every day.
Hypothetically, if we go tues-sat, does this include collection staff?
Not working Monday while courier firms offer a 6/7 day service is business suicide and simply won't happen.

With the volume of letters falling I'm wondering how long it'll be before RM start to consider decommissioning iLSMs, IMPs, CSSs and maybe FSMs in MCs. I think it's a matter of when it happens, not if it happens

They were planing for change in 2023 / 24 , when both of the new hubs would be up and running , dont think the potential customers will wait that longManboat wrote:All the recruitment activity lately say afternoon starts Monday to Saturday with rotating day off so doesn’t look like Sundays is in their thoughts strangely enough

The midlands hub has just got planning permission, it's going very near to NDC, the northern hub is already online (don't know about sorting machines) so it's just the southern hub that we don't (AFAIK) have a confirmed location forwallan wrote:They were planing for change in 2023 / 24 , when both of the new hubs would be up and running , dont think the potential customers will wait that longManboat wrote:All the recruitment activity lately say afternoon starts Monday to Saturday with rotating day off so doesn’t look like Sundays is in their thoughts strangely enough
