I hsd a panic attack at work. I've not slept and need to call in. Can I self certify for the 7 days? And ask a doctor if i need more.

Yes you can self-certify for the first 7 days - that includes Sunday, so if you rang in today (Tuesday) you would have to go back next Tuesday or provide a Dr certificate. Call in a say you've had a panic attack and not slept, simple as that, doesn't matter what they say in return - it is your health.
A postie at our place went off with stress after a panic attack in the office, they contacted their Dr and were signed off for two weeks - that took them to 16 days total so they now have a stage warning!!! But your health and well-being are more important than RM. If this had been building up for a while it may be best to contact a Dr sooner rather than later, they don't have to do anything straight away.

If the stress is Covid 19 related would it be discounted from the attendance procedure?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

For the person at our office it was related as they were being endlessly messed around with what they were supposed to be doing and who they were expected to work with - the cwu rep was fully aware and had caused the changes. That didn't stop the stage being issued.clashcityrocker wrote:If the stress is Covid 19 related would it be discounted from the attendance procedure?

Tell them straight up, job done. Like previous posters have said, it's your health.Jamiechelt wrote:I hsd a panic attack at work. I've not slept and need to call in. Can I self certify for the 7 days? And ask a doctor if i need more.

Any employer in this day and age would be absolutely mad to dismiss it, given the current spotlight on mental health well-being.
In a previous job I had to take a lot of time off and resign in the end to help get my mental health to where it should be.
Fortunately there are many resources to help you get back on track.

Yes my friend,as the rest have said on this ,simply tell it how it is,the so called caring management and employers can do what they like, and of course if history is anything to go by,you will no doubt have a task on your hands, but stick to your guns, and do what’s right, don’t be fazed by them,I’m starting to up my game with my hip and knee problems and won’t take much more crap,I will simply go off sick with stress thrown in if they they don’t start playing ball, health and well-being far more important than this corrupt managed outfit,

I’m fine thankyou,I am off on leave at the moment well away from the lunatics in our office,I’ve done 38 years and am 59, I have a lovely rural delivery and they couldn’t be nicer, but this latest cv19 policy that they seemed is working of course is laughable to say the least, but anyway my knee and hip need attention and awaiting various scans, boss is aware and had some tocken respite by doing callers office a few times and a bit of my walking delivery on my rural done to help me ,but it’s far from perfect as rest is the only relief,so just waiting, not keen on returning and limping round my delivery in pain so will see,Dindin wrote:I hope you are ok mate . Sorry to wade in on this but just a quick question. I'm currently off with stress. I called in sick and then got in touch with GP who gave me a note from day 1 of absence. The note lasts for two weeks. When would I be expected to return to work; is it the day on the note, or the day after? Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

You return to work when fit it might be less then your note or you might need another one you should keep your manager informed.ScousePostie wrote:Sorry to wade in on this but just a quick question. Q: If the fit note states 14/10/14 to 28/10/14, should the employee return to work on 28/10/14 or 29/10/14?
A: The employee should return on 29/10/14 (the first working day after the inclusive period covered by the statement), but note your employee can go back to work at any time (including before the end of the fit note) without going back to see their doctor - even if their doctor has indicated that they need to assess them again. This will not breach your Employers Liability Compulsory Insurance, providing a suitable risk assessment has taken place if required.
