I’m part time 30 hours a week. Been put on 1pm start. Not told till the day before what my start time will be. Surely there as to be a reasonable amount of time to tell you what your working hours should be. Started at 1pm today Saturday! no yard key to put the van back in the yard. Told to put the van in a unsecured car park next to the DO at the end of the day! With all the tracked 739’s left it. Overnight! Surely that’s a security risk?

Legally, I think an employer should give at least 12 hours notice for a change in shift/hours.

Im assuming the van full of the 739s is either in a secure location or is being moved into the yard after you finish your shift?? If not and it gets broken into then your boss is liable.

My opinion on working different hours and being flexible should work both ways. If they expect you to work 1pm short notice the next day; then they should honour your request for a day off for the next day. Knowing Royal Mail as I do though, they like to have their cake and eat it.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

That was my argument with my DOM with this afternoon working.
You bring back 739's and specials and the office is closed and if you have a day off next day you are not personally putting the item in the cage.
We had one occurance where a postie left his undelivered items in the van and next day he was off and the van went for a service with the undelivered items still in the back of the van

I don't doubt that managers will use 'unprecedented times' as justification. Its like those guys who were working from home were told by managers that they could take any 739s and PDAs home when they finished. Yet in normal circumstances, this would be classed as wilful delay and you could face conduct for it.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Your lucky to have a yard.we have to park our vans in a public car park(charges waived by the council) about three streets away not even in sight of the office.very hard to get a space when the sun's out its mobbed.

Resource meetings 'should' take place 2 weeks prior, so you should get (best scenario) two weeks notice and a weeks notice not too bad, any
'day before' notifications should just be for emergencies, but regular last minute/day before notification is just poor management.

Current situation giving managers excuse to plan on the back of a cigarette packet.

Keep a record of when you find out your rota allocations. If last minute
notifications keep happening and you feel confident, put a grievance in.

Another thing that your local rep should be all over.......

As usual nothing adhered to with proper policy and procedure if it doesn’t suit,we really do get shafted and should challenge all this unlawful and stuff they think they’ll get away with, either it’s right or wrong no middle ground, mismanagement and corruption at its finest
