As a business, we invest in continuous improvements to help us more effectively handle and deliver the changing mailbag while offering an excellent customer experience.
A recent example is the extension of our Safeplace delivery option to include Royal Mail 24 and 48 Standard parcels. Already offered on Royal Mail Tracked 24 and 48 products, Safeplace for Royal Mail 24 and 48 parcels is a delivery location option that customers can select at point of purchase providing the option has been made available by the sending customer.
Widening the range of products that have Safeplace as a delivery option caters to an increasing requirement among customers for contactless delivery, given the current concerns regarding covid-19 and hygiene protocols.
If while a colleague is out on delivery there is no answer at the customer’s address, the label on the parcel will show ‘Safeplace’ and the associated instruction (e.g. leave in shed).
Once the colleague has ensured that the Safeplace is accessible and ‘safe’ – i.e. undercover and out of sight of the general public – the Safeplace option is selected on the PDA, a photograph is taken of the item in the Safeplace, and a Something for You card is put through the customer’s letterbox.
Importantly, broadening our Safeplace capability strengthens our competitiveness in the market, where several other parcel delivery businesses already offer similar choices. More Royal Mail products – such as First Class and Second Class – may also have Safeplace as a delivery location option in the future.
At a time when personal health and safety is foremost, making Safeplace available for Royal Mail 24 and 48 products offers peace of mind to our customers that a contact free delivery option is available for their parcels. Increasing the availability of Safeplace for Royal Mail 24 and 48 products also supports our frontline colleagues, who will have fewer parcels to bring back to the customer service point (CSP); and supports our CSP colleagues who will have fewer customers attending their units.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Goodness knows why it's taken them so long to do this. Better late than never, I suppose.

They didn't want to dilute a premium product like Tracked by offering similar options on the cheaper products.DGH wrote:Goodness knows why it's taken them so long to do this. Better late than never, I suppose.
It's above our pay grade sort of nonsense...

How many just select a safe place themselves & leave the parcel with card telling customer where it is.

Ah, the cunning plan to keep the pressure on us delivering while more people go back to work from Monday in England and so more addresses won't have someone at home to answer the door in ~10 to 90 seconds.

Obviously the line about protecting our staff, sorry colleagues is in the final edit.

Long queues outside offices for 2 weeks. Let's try something different.
How about fully opening up collection window again?

Common sense. Most of us with duties would put stuff in safeplaces anyway.

You are STILL responsible for that packet/parcel if it is stolen or damaged as the SAFE PLACE will be deemed as not a SAFE place.POSTMAN wrote: Once the colleague has ensured that the Safeplace is accessible and ‘safe’ – i.e. undercover and out of sight of the general public – the Safeplace option is selected on the PDA, a photograph is taken of the item in the Safeplace, and a Something for You card is put through the customer’s letterbox.
It is still YOU taking the risk.

Anyone else notice 'Safeplace' being marked on the small packets we get, I think from Amazon, that can easily be posted through even the smallest letterbox. But if you try to select safe place on the menu for them to take a photo it doesn't come up as an available option.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Can someone explain the safe place/do not fly thingy please?
Does it mean the customer has a safe place which no doubt the duty holder knows about although that’s no good to reserves who might be doing it for the first time?
Or does it mean to find a safe place?
To clarify: I don’t mean the ones which say ‘safe place; leave in shed’ I know fully well what that means.

I understand this as an item needing to be put in a good safe place, probably something with a higher value.HTPostman wrote:Can someone explain the safe place/do not fly thingy please?

Ive had them for properties where there is no chance of finding a safe place, so its more to do with the sender not wanting it to be doorstepped.
