No letters on Sat but attendance times unchanged
THIS POST HAS BEEN EDITED, as have a few others.
For anyone who didn't see the emergency facebook live stream today from Terry and Dave here's a brief summary:
-The Government, Ofcom and CEO Rico Back have consulted with the CWU and agreed that the planned emergency alteration to the USO (no Sat letters) is explicitly TEMPORARY, is purely Covid-19 related and will only last 6 weeks. It will be reviewed every 2 weeks over that time and reflect current Gov Coronavirus advice etc.
-Rico has negotiated with CWU and has agreed to CWU demands that any alteration to duty times over the next 6 weeks are to be VOLUNTARY. Your attendance and duty times and patterns don't change unless you want them to.
This is a victory, as a result we should aim to do an excellent job in order to show the Union's word - that we can fix this situation - can be trusted.
We should work diligently to clear any backlog and show that we can deliver the service the public want without being battered by an uncompromising employer. If we have issues with that task we need to ask managers to provide solutions - more vans for example. Our solidarity and backing of the Union has turned this round from a very bleak picture. HQ were very happy with this result and rightly so, they believe we are stronger now after this negotiation involving Gov + Ofcom. Rico has listened and acquiesced and going forward HQ say they are in a much stronger place to find solutions to the ongoing dispute.
Solidarity brothers and sisters has worked for us today, only with our firm backing over this past week have the Union had the power to force these talks.

So does this mean that we will carry on delivering letters as usual on Saturday?meercat wrote:For anyone who didn't see the emergency facebook live stream today from Terry and Dave here's a brief summary:

-Rico has negotiated with CWU and has agreed to CWU demands that any alteration to deliveries over the next 6 weeks are to be VOLUNTARY. In other words anyone is free to carry on as normal. Your attendance and duty times and patterns don't change, delivery methods on Sat don't change UNLESS YOU AGREE to that at local level. Do what YOU think is best to clear the packet backlog while considering your family and other commitments. If you want to deliver only packets on a Sat do so, if you want to carry on as normal on a Sat do so.

You should do as instructed, if it is a reasonable request.

where does it say that? I just read the CWU RM letter on the CWU facebook page and it does not say you can deliver letters+ packets or only do packets.meercat wrote:Yes you can deliver letters on Saturdays as usual. Or you can do only packets, it's completely up to you, have a chat with your manager and inform him what you want to do.
Obviously if your manager wants you to do both letters and packets you should do that as that is your normal duty.

I really hope it's as clear cut as the OP has stated but i highly doubt it.
Again this announcement was late in the day and managers have already made changes for tomorrow, will they have recieved instructions from above by start of shift in the morning? doubtful at best.
Fun and games ahead i feel

Absolute rubbish! It’s packets, signed fors, specials and tracked only for the next 6 Saturdays.meercat wrote:Yes you can deliver letters on Saturdays as usual. Or you can do only packets, it's completely up to you, have a chat with your manager and inform him what you want to do.

I’ve just seen, elsewhere, that if a walk fails on the Friday then, and only then, can letters be delivered, for that walk only, on a Saturday.

• There will be no imposed duty changes connected with this temporary relaxation oftwiddledumb wrote:where does it say that? the USO. Any changes to these duty structures will be voluntary and must be
agreed locally, utilising the IR Framework

I think that means changes to your start finish times and rest days, they can tell you to deliver whatever they want during your dutymeercat wrote:• There will be no imposed duty changes connected with this temporary relaxation ofBiker Mouse wrote:Absolute rubbish! That's not what Dave said and he was quite clear. And that's not what the wording says.
A 'duty change' is a change to your normal duty. If your normal duty involves delivering letters then you can continue to do that.
But I'll agree it's a little vague, let me watch the facebook stream again...
