A POSTWOMAN from Bournemouth has been helping to brighten up people’s days in isolation by delivering their post dressed in a post box costume.

Lana Craig, who has been working as a postwoman at Winton Delivery Office for over 17 years, has received a lot of love and support from people across the county for her idea.

Photos and videos began appearing on social media last week trying to unmask the mysterious 'post box postie'.

She said: “A couple of weeks ago my sister-in-law mentioned that she had a post box outfit and did I want to borrow it, I said no at first as thought it was a bit silly and I’d be a bit embarrassed to wear it.

“After a bit of thought I decided to give it a go, nobody would know it was me. I was able to keep it quite in the office for most the week.

“The first time I wore it last Monday, it was only for a small part of my delivery, just to test out. it went down very well so I wore it for my whole delivery on the Tuesday.

Households along Ensbury Park Road, Victoria Avenue and Vicarage Road have been entertained with Lana’s attire and have been showing her a lot of support on her daily deliveries.

Lana added: “Everyone just does a double take and then laughs, smile and take photos. Cars beep and put thumbs up, but everyone smiles and tells me that I’ve really made their day.

"I like it when I walk up to their door, as you pass their front window you just hear them burst into laughter and then there at the windows waving or coming out to take photos.

"I delivered a different area on Friday, the Kinson end of Poole Lane, Aldridge Road and Wicket Road and I was getting a great response again."

After coming clean on social media as the 'post box postie', Lana has received yet more thanks and praise for her service from children and families in Bournemouth.

Lana has also been using the publicity to help continue the support for postmen and postwomen across the country continuing their jobs to keep the country running during lockdown with the hashtag #thumbsupforposties.

“It’s been great fun, which is what I needed to as work is very busy, and I even find being outside at work is rather stressful and scary, I’d prefer to be safe at home," said Lana.

“I’m just very happy that people have responded so well to it and it brightens up their days, any little thing out the ordinary is what is needed in times like these.”

How easy must her delivery be if she can do it wearing that outfit and meanwhile the rest of us are getting Christmas levels of mail for weeks now.

It's an easy conclusion to make to be fair, how could anyone even do half a delivery wearing that unless they work at snail pace.
This is exactly the type of PR that the company wants, it's not the reality for the rest of us, everything is not grand and jolly.

The full article mentions she is athletically active and she appears to run obstacle course competitively. If so a blow-up post box won't be much of a challenge.

But my comment was mainly because when we have RM talking down our jobs, its sad when colleagues do the same with little or no information. Not getting at you personally but in my years with Royal Mail its amazing how many people think everyone else has an easier job than the one they have. It seems to run at around 100% in most offices.

Maybe she is capable, fair enough but it boils my p**s seeing all these articles with posties dressed as Spiderman etc.. When the majority of their colleagues are stressed out at the moment and most of that stress comes from bullying and harassment from Royal Mail culture of B&H.

Is it my imagination or is the back door of the Royal Mail van wide open with no one there?

Actually, I think I see someone kneeling inside the van. Probably reaching in to get the next bag.

My thoughts exactly,I'm also getting wound up by the amount of posties at our place using their own cars just to make it easier for RM, which would be bad enough if it was just to follow the van but I've seen some chucking parcels on the back seats ! come on wake up, RM are about to shaft us like never before and I'm surrounded by folk who appear to be completely oblivious.
