Hi are there strike action exemptions in place for staff nearing retirement age as it would have a monetary affect on there final pension.

If you strike Royal Mail are not change their rules to reward you for not working. Conversely, the Union are unlikely to come to an agreement that could appear to reward strikebreakers.
As always it is up to each individual to weigh up the benefit/sacrifice conundrum and to look to their conscience (family/job/union) and make their own mind up based on their personal circumstances.

It's not the intention to strike break it IS to protect the pension of employees nearing retirement I know of some unions who allow employees with less than 2 years left to attend without any resentment

Read the question you fool yes I have just over 1 year left to go then its state pension time and the poltee royal mail pension never worked overtime or days of always been on strike when called out as I hate the place and wont send a minute longer than I have to here and pity any one who has any long length of time to go.
