Managerial visits to explain RMs position.
We had a manager visit us today to tell us RMs position on declining letters and the new parcel strategy etc. Mostly no new information apart from a couple of points:
1) Our parcels above shoe box size will be diverted to the nearest LAT hub which is about six miles away.
2) RM intends to do annual revisions and full resigns. I didn't know this one as I hadn't watched the latest Ricky film. Just another spanner in the works dressed up as 'fairness' but bound to cause further DO upset. Everyone generally hates resigns.
The manager is known by an unfavourable nickname and is generally avoided and not particularly liked so no questions were asked except for a stupid one about how large a shoe box is. If we had asked questions the manager admitted they had no further information. They did spout the company line about how the letters have dropped and how we don't have Sky magazines anymore. The obvious response is that we now have magazines to replace those by the barrowload including National Trust, RHS, Arts Society, Chiltern Society, at least six BBC magazines etc etc. In addition we have deliver to neighbour, safe place, age restricted and set customer, 2D barcodes, Tracked, vehicle idling restrictions, and the pressure and stress of being permanently tracked & watched by two sets of technology. I'm preaching to the converted here but in short any savings in time from lack of quantity of mail have been vastly overtaken by all the new delivery processes which take time to complete.
The manager didn't mention whether all the Tracked items are being diverted to the LAT hubs and none of us asked. It's likely they would not have the knowledge to answer that question either. I trust what Martin Walsh writes so can only assume that is the case. If it is not then the time discrepancy between not delivering maybe ten or twelve large parcels vs delivering to twenty percent more delivery points, with all those extra small packets/parcels, will be even wider and the task even more impossible to achieve.
This is what that firm of consultants, probably none of which having any knowledge of what we do, have brought down on our heads thanks to the parcel bias of a fat old German man.

The manager also stated that most people do online banking so there are hardly any letters or statements being sent out by banks & building societies. In my experience this is incorrect and a fair percentage of the letters are still from banks & building societies although they probably mostly come via DSA.
The internet is notoriously insecure with millions of pounds lost to fraud annually much of it from bank accounts.

Highlight of ours was being told about Rico being 'knackered' after going out on delivery in Fulham with his trolley.

We had a senior manager visit our DO on Monday. Among other things we were told categorically that there would be no forced job losses, everyone who is currently employed by the company will have one if they want one.
Just two days later it's announced that the local mail center will be cutting 100 jobs. Not agreed with the union.
Managers won't rule out compulsory redundancies.
They're not even trying to spin things any more. They're think we're too stupid to see the blatent lies

I did and it's not all Tracked just those above shoebox size and LAT. Also they don't want to include rurals so they're looking at segregation solutions down to individual postcodes. The manager didn't mention whether all the Tracked items are being diverted to the LAT hubs and none of us asked

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You're probably still going to get stuff through that's over shoebox size. Chances are that we won't have setups for large so whatever we get through in sleeves will just get sorted as small. The LAT hubs will get through a good few items that are smallWoody Guthrie wrote:I did and it's not all Tracked just those above shoebox size and LAT. What does that mean; segregation solutions? Who's gonna do the LAT for a rural address? Or will rural duties be changed to a later start? Who'll do the 1pm specials?Woody Guthrie wrote: Also they don't want to include rurals so they're looking at segregation solutions down to individual postcodes.
