Given how short on staff many DOs are, I'd give it 2-3 days (a week tops) before the DOM abandons the idea of using porters and has them doing other stuff (IPS, preping walks, etc)

Before a revision - "Portering will give you extra time to prep the bigger duties"
After revision - "Where are all these porters?"

They are needed in our office without them the ips frames would fill up and mail would get pushed out the back and onto the floor to be sorted again

All it takes is for all the posties to empty their pigeonholes, dump the letters on their frames, then return to continue IPS. No need for specific Porter duties. It's just common sense.
