Just some thoughts and questions on things....
'Letters dropping'
I often hear the longer serving posties say that the job was a breeze, going out on their bikes, not doing too many deliveries, going in for a cup of tea at Maureen's at no.12 Sycamore Drive, job and finish and back home early.
People say mail is dropping, but I am out delivering until my contracted hours most days apart from Tuesday and Saturday which are typically lighter and most of the time there's around 30 mins less work than the other days of the week, which helps in not over-doing things. If everyday was like a Wednesday I'd be physically wrecked.
Was there a quick rise in the amount of post from the bike days when RM went to vans and now a sudden drop?
Pay rise
Is a pay rise coming? On some sheet I got given it says RM's proposal is a '6% pay rise for our CWU-grade people', who is a CWU grade person?
Number of walks to drop from 58,000 to 50,000
Is this due to walks being to short, posties finishing early?...so some walks will be cut up and given to those walks which are too short? I thought more homes were built than knocked down, population increases, so surely that should help mail volumes and increase the number of walks. I know there are plenty of housing developments going on in my area.
- Why have RM yet to sell parcel delivery boxes and leaflet every house in the UK about them?
- Why don't RM propose making Saturday an earlier finish, say 30 minutes earlier and add the 30 minutes to a Wednesday/Thursday extending those days by 15 minutes? Would allow Posties to get home and enjoy their weekend that little bit earlier and also allow them more flexibility on the busier days meaning less overtime being claimed.
-Why can't managers manage better so that the workload is distributed more fairly, be more organised, don't just send newbies out blind with no information just left to work it out themselves.....the result is they get annoyed and leave and you have to train someone else up, or they claim overtime, whereas if you gave them more help/guidance they would not be out so late claiming overtime.

I would be very interesting in the outcome regarding the proposed pay rise. I know, I am aware Royal Mail is trying to buy us for pennies so we don't vote for strike again. However with rising cost of livings across the country I am sure we would welcome a bit of of pay rise especially that personal allowance is not growing this year for the first time in a couple years time. My question is the pay rise proposal in itself. 6% over period of 3 years? 2% in April? I know its better than nothing but this will have no effect. How much is it gonna be for a full time postie? £10 added to basic pay?

I’ve done this since the 1980s.We certainly had less junk mail then but more live stuff.Cheque books ,paying in books ,car tax. It all came as 1 or second class..Junk or rebate as it was Know was covered over the week.Packets specials & recorded were few. When bikes went basically it went to 2 guys doing 3 Guys work..

A postie delivers to a block of flats with ten drops and each receive 2 letters a day. Now let’s say mail volumes are dropping just to appease RM bigwigs so now those 10 drops now only get 1 letter each but in the same time the mail has dropped a new block of flats have been built next door with another 10 drops who each receive 1 letter a day, now the poor postie who was delivering 20 letters in one block is now delivering 20 letters in 2 blocks which means a longer delivery span with the same quantity of letters whether they are stamped or business mail. In a nutshell Royal Mail are saying we carry less which should take less time but infact we carry the same amount or more to more drop points taking more time....stamped mail may be down but the amount of new builds being erected at a furious pace means our job is no easier now than 10 years ago with this mail down scenario which is always thrown at us day in day out to warrant all the changes RM want to force through.

They also measure volume drop in monetary terms ie: how many letters are going over to Whistle or UK Mail - even though we deliver 100% of all mail but say 50% are through private operators so in RM eyes we've lost 50% revenues.
It's a play on words that they like to band about.

Exactly what I’ve been thinking. On the duties I cover each have seen a rise of at least 100 house in the past year.par4mrl wrote:A postie delivers to a block of flats with ten drops and each receive 2 letters a day. If you examine the letters and flats not posted by the general public you will find the majority of that mail has arrived via other courier companies and has entered our mailstream via the DSA scheme. These other courier companies take 50% of the revenue but RM does the majority of the work and just gets the remaining 50%. It is virtually theft of our revenue and threatens our jobs and should be the sole target of Rico Blacks venom rather than us Posties who keep the company running.Phantom wrote:They also measure volume drop in monetary terms ie: how many letters are going over to Whistle or UK Mail - even though we deliver 100% of all mail but say 50% are through private operators so in RM eyes we've lost 50% revenues.

Think about that you could now buy a "cheap" coffee extra a week. This is the offer from a a man who recieved the amount of 6million as a golden hello something a normal postie would have to work 200 years for.The world is feckedleolion855 wrote:for a pt postie its around £2.60 a week so for us its a insult.blacov wrote:I would be very interesting in the outcome regarding the proposed pay rise.
