VE Day bank holiday May 2020

Post by nightcrawler »

So this year they’ve moved the early May bank holiday from Monday 4th to Friday 8th, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. I just watched a feature on BBC Breakfast about all the stuff going on over that weekend, inc lots of various events, street parties, and letting pubs open later to name but a few. Basically they want to try and recreate that day from 75 years ago. Of course, us poor sods have to work the Saturday  Can’t Royal Mail make it a “Non-service day”? Not only do we lose out by working the Saturday, but we also lose out by not having 2 days off in a row, which we would of had if it was the usual Sunday/Monday bank holiday.

It's not RM's decision to make, only OFCOM can deem the Saturday to be a non-service day

The government hate the May Day Bank Holiday mainly because it is associated with 'the workers' and if they could get rid of it they would. Any excuse they can find to disrupt it such the anniversary of VE day and they will do it. I quite like Boris but he is making a bit of a pigs ear of things at the moment.
